The Mavericks took the opening
game of the series against the Senators,
winning a 9-7 slugfest. Drake Zarate
went 3-for-4 from the plate with three
RBIs and Garrett Alvarez picked up his
second win on the hill, giving up four
earned runs over six innings for the
Mavericks.
With the game tied 2-2 after two
innings, the Mavericks struck for three
in the top of the third to take a 5-2 lead,
highlighted by a solo homer from Alex
Emerson.
A solo home run by Edgar Vela
brought the Senators within two in the
bottom half of the third. Then, in the fi fth
inning, RBI-hits from Matt Lokken and
Blayze Arcano-Liacuna tied the game at
5-5.
The Mavericks took the lead back in
the top of the seventh on a sacrifi ce fl y
by Zarate. In the top of the eighth, after
Andrew Castano brought in a run when
he was hit by a pitch with the bases
loaded, Zarare knocked in two runs with
a single to center fi eld to extend the
Mavericks lead to 9-5.
Salem scored a pair of runs in the
bottom half of the eighth, but Mavericks
closer Travis Edgar shut the door on the
Senators chances in the ninth.

The Senators exploded for seven runs
in the seventh inning in their 9-5 win
over the Mavericks. Angeddy Almanzar,
Danny Alvarado, Tanner Cantwell and
Edgar Vela each had two hits to lead the
Senators off ense.
A solo homer from Drake Zarate put
RBI-single from Almanzar to tie the
game at 1-1.
