BY MATT RAWLINGS Of the Keizertimes Thursday, July 22: Volcanoes 31 Senators 7 The Volcanoes set new Mavericks League records with 31 runs on 32 hits in their 24-run win over the Senators. David Kyriacou went 6-for-8 at the plate and scored five runs and Tony Holton went 4-for-7 with five RBIs in the win. With the score tied 4-4 after two innings, the Volcanoes scored six in the top of the third to take a 10-4 lead, high- lighted by a solo homer by Kyriacou. A two-run double from Gabriel Cotto and RBI-singles by Caleb Johnson and Landen Barns helped Salem-Keizer put up another six-spot to go up 16-4. The Volcanoes also put up five runs in the fifth inning, six runs in the sixth and four runs in the ninth. Saturday, July 24: Senators 7 Volcanoes 6 After an embarrassing defeat the pre- vious day, the Senators came back to defeat the Volcanoes 7-6. Jordan Myrow knocked in three runs for the Senators and Dustin Hamilton got his first win of the season on the bump, pitching 5.1 innings and striking out eight while giving up four hits and two earned runs. After the Volcanoes scored a run in the first inning, a two-run blast from Angeddy Almanzar helped the Senators to a four-run second inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Volcanoes answered with a run in the fourth, but in the bottom half of the frame, Myrow delivered a three-run homer to extend the Senators lead to 7-2. Salem-Keizer slowly cut into the lead with two runs in the fifth inning, and one run in the eighth and ninth, but Senators closer Matt Dunaway was able to retire the last two batters he faced to get the save. Saturday, July 24: Campesinos 24 Mavericks 2 The Campesinos scored a sea- son-high in runs in their 24-2 victory over the Mavericks. Colby Nealy improved to 8-1 on the season, giving up one run over six innings. The Campesinos offense didn’t take long to get things rolling, scoring seven runs in the top of the first, three of which came on a three-run homer from Morrison. Leading 10-1 after three innings, the Campesinos put five more across in in the top of the fourth. Whitfield and Morrison each homered in the top of the fifth as the Campesinos scored seven runs in the inning to extend their lead to 22-1. Sunday, July 25: Campesinos 14 Mavericks 0 The Campesinos hit five homers on the afternoon and pulled off the domi- nant three-game sweep as they defeated the Mavericks 14-0 in the final game of the series — the Campesinos outscored the Mavericks 47-6 over three games. Nick Ybarra and Eric Whitfield knocked in three runs apiece and Austin Crowson picked up his fourth win after striking out nine over five innings and giving up just two hits and no runs.
