Campesinos pitcher Colby Neely moved to 7-1 on the season after strik- ing out 10 and giving up three earned runs over six innings of work. The Senators grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third when Matt Lokken drove a two-run double to cen- ter fi eld, but the Campesinos scored three runs in the top of the fourth to take the lead. A pair of RBI-groundouts in the top of the fi fth by Runge and Trevor Morrison put the Campesinos on top 5-2. The Senators eventually trimmed the defi cit to 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, but the Campesinos plated fi ve in the top of the ninth to take an 11-4 lead. A two-run triple from Runge and an RBI-double from Morrison were the highlights of the frame for the Campesinos. Saturday, July 17: Mavericks 8 Volcanoes 6 The Mavericks rallied from a fi ve- run defi cit to defeat the Volcanoes 8-6. Joce Phelan went 2-for-5 and hit the go-ahead, three-run homer, and Ethan Roseback went eight innings on the hill, giving up nine hits and four earned runs in the win. With the score tied at 1-1, the Volcanoes scored four runs in the bot- tom of the fourth to take a command- ing 5-1 lead. Salem-Keizer increased that lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fi fth on a solo homer from Nick Adgar. In the top of the seventh, the Mavericks took advantage of a pair of Volcanoes errors to score three unearned runs, cutting the lead to 6-4. Still trailing by two runs entering the top of the ninth, back-to-back sin- gles from Rodny Rodriguez and Alex Emerson brought the go-ahead run to the plate. Matt Holliday kept the rally going with an RBI-single to center fi eld, which was followed by a three-run blast by Phelan to give the Mavericks their fi rst lead. Sean Kiley came in for the Mavericks in the bottom of the ninth and pitched a 1-2-3 inning to close out his second save of the season. Saturday, July 17: Senators 5 Campesinos 3 Senators right-hander Nathan Gillman threw six innings and gave up just two earned runs as Salem defeated the league-leading Campesinos 5-3. After the Senators took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fi rst, the Campesinos responded with two runs of their own in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 2-2. Trevor Morrison put the Campesinos on top 3-2 with a sacrifi ce fl y in the top of the sixth, but the Senators were able to tie the game later in the frame. Edgar Vela put the Senators on top for good with his solo homer in the bot- tom of the seventh. Sunday, July 18: Campesinos 8 Senators 3 The Campesinos scored seven runs in the fi rst three innings in their 8-3 series-clinching victory over the Senators. Collin Runge, Trevor Morrison and Eric Whitfi eld each had two RBIs in the win. After scoring a run in the fi rst on an RBI-double from Runge, the Campesinos broke the game open in the top of the third, scoring six runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-run homer by Whitfi eld. Sunday, July 18: Mavericks 11 Volcanoes 3 Trailing 3-2 going into the top of the ninth, the Mavericks exploded for nine runs in the fi nal frame to get the series-clinching win over the Volcanoes. Joce Phelan led the Mavericks with fi ve RBIs in the win. Travis Edgar was declared the win- ning pitcher in relief, giving up just a hit and no runs over three innings. After an RBI-groundout by Phelan in the top of the fourth to give the Mavericks a 1-0 advantage, the Volcanoes got a pair of runs in the bot- tom half of the frame to go up 2-1. An RBI-single by Bryan Ruby extended the Volcanoes lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth, but the Mavericks got a run back in the top of the eighth thanks to another RBI by Phelan. Down to their fi nal three outs, the Mavericks went off for nine runs on seven hits and took advantage of three Volcanoes errors in the top of the ninth. One of the seven hits was a three-run blast by Phelan. Joce Phelan led the Mavericks with eight RBIs and two homers in the final two games of the series against the Volcanoes.
