Whether it has been coaching or teaching physical education, Wing has been dedicated to imparting wisdom to youngsters for nearly four decades. But after 32 years as a physical edu- cation teacher at Gubser Elementary, Wing decided that it was time to enter the next phase of his life: retirement. Wing has seen a lot of changes in his time as a Gubser P.E teacher, not only at the school, but in the entire Salem-Keizer School District (SKSD). “You know it’s time to retire when your old offi ce gets bricked in. Or when your ID number for (SKSD) is three digits when everyone else’s is seven or eight,” Wing said with a smile. After graduating from Redmond High School in 1978, Wing attended and played basketball at Central Oregon Community College before fi nishing up his education at Oregon State University. Wing moved back to central Oregon after graduating col- lege in 1982, where he spent several years working as a plumber and man- aging a ranch. But Wing's heart wanted He taught the fundamentals of the game, but most importantly he taught the fundamentals of life. BASKETBALL See WING, page A11 SUBSCRIBER ADDRESS : Two swimmers missing, presumed drowned Two men are missing in separate swimming incidents that took place Saturday, June 26. About 7 p.m., Yamhill County Sheriff ’s Offi ce Marine Patrol deputies were dis- patched to a missing swimmer report near the Willamette Ferry. Upon arrival, deputies learned that Nasiruddin Shaik, 37, of Salem, was last seen struggling in the water off the Marion County river bank. A contingent of law enforcement, fi re/rescue personnel, and volunteers searched the waterway and river bank, utilizing multiple boats and a helicopter. The search was suspended about 10 p.m. until the following morning.
