Campesinos stay atop Mavs League Standings

Mavericks League Recap: (June 17-20)
Thursday, June 17: Campesinos 3 Mavericks 2 (Game 1)
Trevor Morrison hit a walk-off RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth inning to give
the Campesinos the 3-2 win over the Mavericks.
Pitchers Garrett Alvarez for the Mavericks and Colby Neely for the Campesinos each
gave up just one earned run over seven innings of work.
The Mavericks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fi fth on a solo homer from Matt Holiday,
but the Campesinos tied the game in the fi fth thanks to an RBI-single by Aramis Cruz.
Holiday had another RBI in the top of the eighth as he knocked in Danny Alvarado
after grounding into a fi elder's choice. But in the bottom half of the frame, Collin Runge
brought home Jeff Chandler with a sacrifi ce fl y before Rick Phillips scored on Morrison's
game-winning hit.
Thursday, June 17: Campesinos 8 Mavericks 3 (Game 2)
Rick Phillips and Jeff Chandler had three RBIs apiece, leading the Campesinos to an
8-3 win over the Mavericks in game two of the doubleheader.
The Mavericks went on top 3-0 in the top of the second after an RBI-groundout from
Parker Swindell and a two-run double by Kyle McCormick. The Campesinos answered
back in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI-single by Trevor Morrison.
In the bottom of the fi fth, Chandler launched a three-run shot to give the Campesinos
their fi rst lead. Phillips soon followed with an RBI-double to extend the lead to 5-3.
Phillips would also have a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to break the
game open.
Friday, June 18: Senators 6 Volcanoes 4 (Game 2)
After losing game one of their doubleheader, the Senators bounced back to win game
two by a score of 6-4. Xavier Ulrich went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs for the Senators and
Matt Dunaway got the win on the bump, giving up two earned runs and striking out
seven in fi ve innings of work.
The Volcanoes grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom after Garrett Kueber scored on an
error by Volcanoes second baseman Humberto Soto.
In the top of the second, Ulrich hit a two-run double and was later brought home on
an RBI-single Jordan Myrow, putting the Senators on top 3-1.
