Artists: Keep Oregon Green wants Carousel
anniversary billboard submissions marks
Keep Oregon Green is celebrating its
80-year history by unveiling its fi rst bill-
board poster art contest. The association
is asking Oregonians of all ages to create
and submit entries and share their vision
for keeping Oregon free of wildfi re.
The contest opened on June 1, and the
entry deadline is 5 p.m., August 9, 2021
(Smokey Bear’s birthday).
All submitted artwork will be
reviewed in the fall of 2021, and Oregon
will become an open-air art gallery in
2022, showcasing the fi rst-place winning
artwork on billboards at major intersec-
tions, highways and interstates across
the state.
CASA looking for
speedster heroes
The 2021 CASA Superhero Race will
be on Saturday, June 19, at the Riverfront
Park in Salem.
The 5K or 10K bene-
fi ts Court Appointed
Special Advocates
of Marion County,
a program provid-
ing court advocacy
for abused and neglected
children.
There will be a 10k run at
9 a.m., a 5k run at 9:30 am, and a
one mile lap for kids at 10 a.m. The
10k and 5k are $25 and the one mile lap
for kids is free.
Race packet pick up will be on Friday,
June 18, from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. at our CASA
offi ce located at 3530
River Road N. in
Keizer. Day of
registration/
race check-in
will begin on
Sunday at 8 a.m.
at the Riverfront Park
Pavilion.

There will be three separate divisions
based on age. Within each division will
be fi rst, second, and third-place win-
ners. Cash prizes and certifi cates will
be awarded to the fi rst three people who
place in each age division (grades 1-5;
6-12; and 18+ years). All participants will
receive a Certifi cate of Participation.
Keep Oregon Green’s annual wild-
fi re prevention campaigns encourage
residents and visitors to practice basic
wildfi re safety while enjoying the out-
doors. TV and radio commercials, social
media posts and billboards provide
daily reminders to be careful with activ-
ities that can spark a wildfi re during the
most critical time of year. This year’s
campaign features stunning photos of
Oregon’s iconic landscapes and the use
of the #OregonOurOregon hashtag.

20 years
The Salem Riverfront Carousel
will celebrate its 20th anniversary
Saturday, June 5.
Rides are $1 all day, 10 a.m. to 5
p.m.
Beginning at noon, compli-
mentary birthday cookies and ice
cream will be served while sup-
plies last. A carving exhibition and
Alexander “The Master of Marvels”
Magician will perform.
The event is free to the pub-
lic. Popcorn, cotton candy and hot
dogs will be available to purchase.
All COVID-19 safety precautions
and policies are in eff ect.
The carousel will also be debut-
ing new keepsakes and souvenirs
and discounting yearly ride passes.
