Celtics track teams compete in fi nal meet of season

The McNary boys and girls track
and fi eld teams hosted their fi nal dual
meet of the season on Monday, May 17
against North Salem.
For the Celtics boys, Axel Zapian
Sanchez won the 400 meters for the
third time this season, crossing the fi n-
ish line with a time of 55.87 seconds.
McNary swept all three distance
events, starting with Benjamin
Standley's victory in the 800m. It was
the fi rst time Standley fi nished the
event in under two minutes (1:58.5).
Brennan Whalen won the 1500m
(4:27.4) and Connor Ropp was victori-
ous in the 3000m with a personal-best
time of 9:43.4.
Layne Runyan was the only other
individual winner for the Celtics, get-
ting the victory in the javelin with a
toss of 107-feet-9-inches.
The McNary boys also got wins in
the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

girls' team also got good results
from their distance runners as Karla
Rodriguez was victorious in the 1500m
(5:31.2) and Siosi Utaatu won the
3000m (14:50.4).
Kennedy Buss won the javelin for the
third time this year (101-0) and Isabella
Walker picked up victories in the 300m
hurdles (50.64) — her top mark of the
season and her fourth event win in as
many tries — and the high jump (4-10).
