Art association awards
Orange show standouts
Single Step, a mixed media piece
by Jami Faith, took Best of Show hon-
ors in the Keizer Art Association’s
April virtual show.
Faith’s piece depicts a pair of feet,
composed of bits of maps, stepping
through fl ower petals (pictured left).
“The use of a world map for the
feet makes the viewer wonder where
the walker is and where the feet will
go,” judges wrote in awarding the
artist.
The show theme was “Orange.”
Marilyn Lindsey took fi rst
place in three dimensional art for
Bougainvillea Wristlet, a polymer clay
bracelet. John DeJarnett was awarded
fi rst place in digital art for Orange
Expo. Cheryl Manhire took fi rst place
in photography for From Cara’s Rose
Garden. Spring Awakening by Carol
Sims was fi rst in two dimensional art.
The next show, “Celebration of
Flowers,” begins May 1. Entries from
the current and past shows can be
viewed at keizerarts.org.

MATT LAWYER
Where and how
do you volunteer?
"I primarily volunteer in Keizer
where I serve on the Keizer
Planning Commission, Keizer Parks
and Recreation Advisory Board,
Keizer Homegrown Theatre and
Claggett Creek Watershed Council.
I also participate as a non-member
with the Keizer Chamber Men of
Action group and in Keizer Rotary
volunteer events."
How would you get
others to volunteer
in their community?
"Creating projects that are fun
and engage the entire family.
When families can work and
learn together, it makes the entire
process more satisfying and helps
prepare the next generation to
carry on the legacy of so many
amazing Keizerites."
What does volunteering
do for you?
"What does volunteering do for
you? I get to do really fun projects
with my kids, and I love that. The
projects allow me to use a diverse
skill set to interact with amazing
people, lead and participate in
really meaningful projects such
as the annual Keizer Rotary Civic
Center Cleanup, the Keizer Rotary
Arboretum or getting into a
neighborhood park and removing
rubbish and invasive plants. The
boards and commissions help me
engage with people with a variety
of positions and opinions on many
issues and work collaboratively to
fi nd solutions or recommendations
that make sense."
