Shortly after 9 p.m., a group of approximately 20 protesters gath- ered in front of the Salem Police Department station, 333 Division Street N.E., to chalk the sidewalks in front of the building. While the protest was taking place a man drove up to the sidewalk, stepped out of the vehicle armed with a shotgun and approached the group. He pointed the shotgun at the crowd and fi red one round into the air. No one was injured. A video of the incident was posted to Twitter.  Offi cers were monitoring the pro- test from a distance so as not to incite the demonstration further.
