There will be no holiday
light parade this December.
Danielle Bethell, executive
director of the Keizer
Chamber of Commerce,
made the announcement
at the Keizer City Council
meeting Monday, Nov. 2.
“COVID-19 has created a
bunch of challenges and our
small town is no exception to
that,” Bethell said. “My hope
is that next year’s parade will
be bigger and better than
ever.”
In normal times, the parade
lights up River Road North
the second Saturday of each

usual holiday line-up. Both
the Turkey Dash and Jingle
Dash runs have been canceled
as well.
The

community
event that will continue is
the annual lighting of the
Christmas Tree at Walery Plaza
on River Road. Santa will be
there, children will be selected
to help the Bearded One turn
on the lights, but the general

Numerous speakers took issue with
the equating of white supremacist
organizations with BLM at the

“BLM is a social justice movement
meant to help leaders speak out on
matters of injustice as it relates to
police enforcement, nothing about it is
meant to be hateful. White supremacy

Of the Keizertimes
A proposed statement of city
values raised the ire of residents for
not going far enough in condemning
white supremacy during a Keizer City
Council meeting Monday, Nov. 2.
Attendees at the meeting called out
councilors for refusing to denounce
white supremacy and directed anger
and frustration at City Councilor
Dan Kohler for statements made at a
council work session a week prior.

centers
The colder weather brings
life-threatening
conditions
for those who don’t have
shelter. The Salem Warming
Network seeks to limit the
harsh weather impacts by
providing a place for people
experiencing homelessness or
housing instability when the
temperature reaches 32 degrees
through the winter months.
The warming centers are
considered a “low-barrier”
shelter. The spaces are co-ed
and service animals and pets
are allowed. The only time
someone would be turned
away is if the shelter is full–
in which case they would be
directed to another shelter.
Sites are open from 7 p.m.
