Lights of
Hope on
Capitol
steps Sat.
The Oregon chapter of the American
Cancer Society will light up the steps of the
Oregon Capitol building Saturday, Sept. 12.
At 7 p.m., Lights of Hope bags will be used
to illuminate the word “hope” on the steps
of the building, a tribute to cancer patients,
survivors and advocates. Visitors are welcome
to drive by or walk by the display while ob-
serving social distance and taking pandemic
precautions like face coverings.
“Lights of Hope sends an important mes-
sage to lawmakers. Despite this pandemic,
cancer hasn’t stopped and neither have we,
said Kathy Ottele, the lead ambassador of the
Oregon Cancer Action Network.
The display is part of tributes taking place
nationwide.
For information on dedicating one of the
Lights of Hope bags to a loved one, contact
Ottele at Kathy.Ottele@outlook.com, call
503-551-2293 or visit action.fi ghtcancer.org/
goto/Kathy_Ottele.
“I look forward to getting my neighbors,
family members and friends in Salem in-
volved in this heartfelt event to honor and
remember our loved ones and their cancer
fi ght,” Ottele said.
