SKPS extends EDGE registration
The Salem-Keizer School
District has pushed back its
deadline to register for the
EDGE online program.
If families want their child
to participate in the EDGE on-
line program, applications must
be submitted by Monday, Aug.
24. Applications can be submit-
ted online, or for new students,
during the online registration

Major construction is com-
plete at McNary High School
and Salem-Keizer School Dis-
trict is now preparing it for
student use.
Unfortunately, the fi rst time
students occupy the space will
be no earlier than November.
“We’re planning a virtual
and do not plan to have their
child return to their physical
classroom
Families who want their
child to return to in-person
learning as soon as possible
should not apply for the EDGE
program; however, students will
begin the school year learning
online through comprehensive
distance learning.

The EDGE online program
is designed for families who
know they want their child to
participate in online learning
throughout the school year,
ribbon cutting video cele-
bration and building tour for
release around Sept. 7 or 8, “
said Karma Krause, bond co-
ordinator.
Furniture for the new
classrooms is being delivered
and set up through early next
week, along with fl oor clean-
up and prep before staff enter
classrooms. Equipment for the
diesel bay and culinary pro-
grams is expected to be de-
livered next week, those two
career-technical (vocational)
programs expanded by the
bond.
Contractors will be work-
ing through a list of remaining
tasks for the next couple of
weeks. Sod is currently being
installed on the relocated soc-
cer fi eld. Parking lot paving,
seal coat and striping should
fi nish up by the end of next
week.

Of the Keizertimes
The most popular spot in town for the past
eight months has now become the Keizer’s fi rst
site of a COVID-19 outbreak linked to a restau-
rant.
In-N-Out Burger at Keizer Station, 6280
Keizer Station Boulevard, was listed as reporting
fi ve cases of COVID-19 in the Oregon Health
Authority’s weekly report on coronavirus spread
throughout the state.
In-N-Out has had fi ve cases linked to the site.
OHA offi cials launched an investigation on July
18 and the most recent onset of symptoms was
listed as July 29.
In-N-Out’s vice president of operations, Den-
ny Warnick said the day a COVID-positive em-
ployee worked in the restaurant was on July 28,
and that a housemate of one of the employees
was included in the count.
“We have been in contact with the Marion
County Health and Human Services Depart-
ment about the steps that we are taking in this
situation to protect our associates and customers.
Associates who have had close contact with the
individual have been excluded from work,” War-
nick said. “Nothing is more important to us at
In-N-Out Burger than the health and safety of
our associates and customers. In addition to our
already-rigorous cleanliness and handwashing
standards, we’ve taken many additional safety pre-
cautions including pre-work symptom and tem-
perature checks for all Associates and enhanced
disinfection and sanitation procedures.”
Symptoms of COVID-19 can take up to two
weeks to present themselves and include: cough,
fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, headache and
body aches among others.
“State and local public health offi cials work
intensively with staff at workplaces where out-
breaks are identifi ed to isolate sick workers, test
and quarantine those who have been exposed
and implement workplace changes to reduce risk
of transmission,” the report states.
Only workplaces with at least 30 workers and
fi ve confi rmed cases are included in the report.
In-N-Out shifted to drive-through service
only when Oregon went into lockdown, but re-
opened its dining room area as Oregon began its
phased reopening. It is not known whether In-
N-Out altered its hours or methods as a result of
the outbreak.
With the report, In-N-Out becomes the fi rst
restaurant with a reported COVID-19 outbreak
in Marion and Polk counties.
