Unity BBQ draws a crowd at Willow Lake
Willow Lake Golf Center
and Driving Range in Keizer
hosted the Keizer Unity BBQ
on Sunday, July 12. The pub-
lic was invited to the event,
organized by Heather and
Rich Howard, owners of the
Center, to discuss inclusivity,
equality and bringing a posi-
tive change to society.
The program, emceed by
Jake Espinoza, featured re-
marks by Mayor Cathy Clark,
president of the West Keizer
Neighborhood Association,
Carol Doerfl er, Lt. Andrew
Copeland of the Keizer Police
Department, and activist Juli-
anne Jackson.
About 75 people attend-
ed the rally including some
Keizer city councilors as well
as council candidates.
Heather Howard said she
decided to organize the rally
after hearing of a relative’s dis-
criminatory treatment at a re-
tail store in southern Oregon.

The Keizer Art Association
is now accepting submissions
for its virtual August show,
Celebration of Flowers and
Iris Contest. The show will be
available for viewing on the as-

com, from July 30 to Aug. 25.

submit entries for the Celebra-
tion of Flowers show; artists are
also invited to submit entries
for the offi cial art for Keizer-
FEST 2021. The theme fl ower
is: Bitty Beauty.
Artists may submit up to
four entries.
Submissions for Celebra-
tion of Flowers may be 2-D
(watercolor, oil acrylic, mixed
media, colored pencil or fab-
ric), 3D (carvings, modeling,
welding, I.e., sculpture), pho-
tography or digital art (photos
manipulated in a program such
as PhotoShop). The association
encourages submissions of art
for the youth category (four to
14 years old).
Each submission must have
its own entry form. To get
entry forms for the Celebra-
tion of Flowers show and the
Iris Art Contest email Cheryl

There are no entry fees for
this juried show, but donations
to Keizer Art Association will
be accepted.
