The Salem-Keizer Camp-
esinos (Volcanoes) will take
the field for the first time in
2020 with perhaps one of the
most unique uniforms in all
of baseball.
Salem-Keizer’s “Campesi-
nos” moniker pays tribute to
the collective contributions
of farm workers throughout
the region that established
Oregon as one of the leading
agricultural areas in the Unit-
ed States.
The Volcanoes were select-
ed by Minor League Baseball
as one of 22 teams across the
country to join their Copa de
la Diversión program begin-
ning this summer. "Copa de
la Diversión," or "Fun Cup,"
is a season-long series specifi-
cally designed to embrace the
culture and values that reso-
nate most with participating
teams' local U.S. Hispanic/
Latino communities.
The on-field uniform fea-
tures a bright yellow/gold
jersey with the Campesinos’
customized font prominently
across the chest.
Sleeve patches will adorn
each sleeve featuring the
Campesinos primary logo
and Señor Campo in the fer-
tile fields of the Willamette
Valley with the forests and
mountain ranges in the back-
ground all within the outline
of State of Oregon.
A tip of the sombrero with
the Volcanoes’ plume accents
the logo. A stylized number
will adorn both the front and
back of the jersey.
Perhaps the most unique
feature will be the custom-
ized uniform pants modeled
by Rawlings Sporting Goods
to appear like denim blue
jeans to honor the hard work
of the Campesinos.
The two-tone hats feature
the bust of Señor Campo
strikingly displayed by New
Era Cap against the hats black
crown and bill contrasted by
the yellow/gold rear and side
panels.
Copa de la Diversión is
designed to be an organic
outreach program with the
intent to bridge the gap be-
tween the Latinx communi-
ty creating a decidedly more
inclusive environment in the
stadium and in the communi-
ty. Promoting and supporting
the Hispanic culture in their
ballpark, on specific nights
– the Volcanoes will adopt a
new identity themed around
aspects of the Latino heritage
that reflect both the spirit of
the club and the community
they represent.
Sporting the vibrantly col-
ored uniforms and new logos,
the Campesinos will take the
field to Spanish music while
fans will enjoy food, games
and special guests that cele-
brate the Hispanic culture.
The first opportunity will
be Sunday, June 21, which
is Father's Day. Additional
Campesinos dates have been
selected om Sunday’s July 5,
July 26 and August 16 and
Saturday’s August 8 and Sep-
tember 5.
