Alex Tavera is one of four seniors that would be returning to the
McNary baseball squad.
OSAA,
continued from Page C1
school sports could be
non-existent this spring, es-
pecially after the NCAA
made the decision to cancel
all collegiate sports.
“Through this process, we
have seen a version of align-
ment. Whether there is need
to do that or not, time will
tell, but I’m not going to be
surprised if the OSAA aligns
with what the NCAA is do-
ing,” Gragg said.
If spring sports are indeed
canceled, there will be many
McNary seniors that won’t
get to participate in their fi nal
of playing competitive sports
amd won’t get to experience
their special moments on se-
nior day.
For those student-ath-
letes who’s athletic careers
are hanging in the balance,
Gragg offers a word of advice.
“What we know as athletes
that our time in the sport is
fi nite. There is going to be a
time where athletes will no
longer be able to play the
sport that they love. When
you don’t have control of a
decision, it’s just hard. The re-
ality of that hurts. And there
is no way to comfort that,”
Gragg said. “If sports is all
there is as to who someone
is as an individual, if that’s all
their identity is wrapped up
in, that is a bleak place to be.
Look at all the other things
that you bring to the world
around you and how can you
live in that way that acknowl-
edges who you are is more
than just the sport that you
play.”
