A former McNary High
School coach and a McNary
graduate will take part in
Dancing with the Salem Star
on Saturday, March 14.
Isaac Parker, the former
Celtic football coach and cur-
rent head coach of the Wil-
lamette University football
program, and Conrad Venti, a
McNary graduate and owner
of Venti’s and Basil and Board
in Salem, will be two of the
featured stars.
Dancing with the Salem
Stars is an annual live ballroom
dance-off featuring six local
stars competing against each
other in a head-to-head com-
petition of fancy footwork.
The stars, who each have less
than a week to learn a ballroom
dance routine with a profes-
sional partner from the Corval-
lis-based Utah Ballroom Dance
Company, will strut their stuff
on stage for the fi rst half of the
event. During the second half
of the show, dance company
professionals will perform.
Mikki Trowbridge, Soraida
Cross, Tiffany Bulgin and Col-
lin Box round out this year’s
Salem Stars.
The event supports the Sa-
lem Main Street Association.
The event is being hosted by
the Historic Elsinore Theater.
Advance tickets are $20 to $40
for adults or $15 to $30 for stu-

Hannah Phipps and Austin Guzzon.
Baby Guzzon weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces at birth and mea-
sured 19 inches. She joins sibling Kennedy Guzzon.

Ten bakers entered the arena, but it came
down to one point and a second round of tasting
to crown a champ.
Willamette Valley Lutheran Retirement Com-
munity residents turned out in droves to watch
its fi rst ever baking competition Friday, Feb. 21.
Jan Bliss’ strawberry-cream cheese pie beat
out Debbie Gurule’s lemon meringue angel pie
with a score of 104-103 points.
Other entries included: Darlene Warrick’s
strawberry-rhubarb, Missy Davis’ sweet potato,
Vicki Stiers’ caramel apple, Ann Riley’s pumpkin
cups, Lorna Jensen’s chocolate mousse, Mandy
Krause’s blueberry, Sandy Green’s cherry choc-
olate, and Dave Schlapp’s peach.
Andrew Martin of Willamette Valley Pie and
Julie Paulson of West Salem’s Bountiful Pies
served as judges this year.

The Planning Commission
will hold a public hearing to
consider proposed revisions
to the Keizer Development
Code to amend Section 2.203
(Permitted Uses Generally) to
clarify the requirements for
backyard chickens and to
amend Section 2.312 (Yard
and Lot Standard) to clarify
fence regulations.
