Jean Rogers Barry
Feb. 1, 1920 - Oct. 9, 2019
Jean Rogers Barry recently
passed away at the age of 99.
She was born Feb. 1, 1920,
in Elgin, Ore., to LaNorah and
Albert Rogers. She passed
away the morning of Oct. 9,
2019. Her Mother died hours
after her birth and she was
raised by her
mother’s best
friend, Ethel
Shelton, until
the age of 6.
She then was
taken care of
by her sisters
J. Barry
and their hus-
bands until she
was 17. At that time she lived
in Bonanza, Ore., and graduat-
ed from Bonanza High School
in 1938. She met Ed Barry
in Coos Bay and they were
married in Camp Sherman in
1942. They were married six
weeks when dad was deployed
to serve in the Army in World
War II for three years.
It was mom’s goal in life to
be the best mother she could
be. She achieved that goal and
then some. She was the best
wife, mother, grandmother,
great-grandmother, sister, aunt
and friend. She loved working
as a bookkeeper for JC Penny
in Coos Bay and Henry Mey-
er Furniture in Salem until she
retired in 1976. She missed
working so much that she be-
gan a new career at Custom
Photo which then became
Photovision. She loved her
job and the Woods family. She
retired at 94 years old.
She is pre-deceased by her
husband and her three sisters
and brother. She is survived
by her daughters and son-law
Linda Lewis and Lanora and
John Blake; grandchildren
Stephanie Lewis, John and
Crystal Lewis, Kylee and John
Pedersen, Mitchell and Re-
becca Blake and Molly Blake;
great grandchildren Trystan
and Marley Lewis, Cole and
Stella Pedersen, and Oliver
and Isaac Blake; nieces Anna
May Lofstrom, Adelen Cof-
fi n Nygaard and nephew Tim
Bullard.
She will be deeply missed
by her family and many friends.
At 99 years old, she was still ac-
tive and sewing labels on quilts
made by the Quilting Sisters
for people that
need
com-
fort. Everyone
loved her dear-
ly. She was al-
ways a happy,
positive
and
loving person.
She made ev-
eryone she met feel special.
Our mom will continue to
infl uence each and everyone
of us in her absence as she did
in her presence. She is where
God meant for her to be:
Eternally in His presence.
Donations can be made to
these charities that were close
to her heart. Marion Coun-

PARADE,
continued from Page A1
The traffi c impacts begin
at 3 p.m., when Lockhaven
Drive is closed to all traffi c
between River and McClure
Street N. to establish a parade
staging area. River Road
North is expected to close
about 5:30 p.m. between
Lockhaven Drive North and
Glynbrook Avenue. Prior to
the parade, which is sponsored
by Salem Electric, the annual
Jingle Dash will take center
stage.
Traffi c will periodically be
allowed to cross River Road
at Chemawa Road before the
parade begins.
The Jingle Dash 5K
race starts (and fi nishes) at
the chamber offi ce, 4118
River Road N., and allows
participants to run on River
Road.
Participants are encouraged
to dress up for the best
costume awards by wearing
their best Santa suit, reindeer
horns or twinkle lights.
Parking for runners will
be available at Keizer Lions
Club, 4300 Cherry Ave NE.
Cost is $30 for adults and $20
for kids 12 years or younger.
Participants can register
online at keizerchamber.com
or at the Keizer Chamber
offi ce.
River Road is expected to
re-open around 9 p.m. as the
parade continues southbound.
Signs advising of street
closures will be placed leading
up to the day of the parade.
Police are asking for sidewalks
along River Road to be kept
clear of chairs until the parade
starts so that disabled citizens
can travel on them.
The parade itself will have
about 60 entries, which is
down from prior years, but
there will be lots of new faces.
“About a third of the
participants haven’t been
part of the parade since the
chamber of commerce took
over,” Bethell said.
She
was
eager
to
see what two schools,
Chemawa Indian School
and Cummings Elementary
School came up with. Bethell
expected the largest entry to
be one associated with the
TimberUnity movement.
While there will be
politically-themed
fl oats,
Bethell said great care is being
taken to keep everything
family friendly.
School
bands
from
McNary, McKay, South
Salem and Sprague high
schools will be part of the
procession. The 234th Army
Band will lead the parade, and
The Beat Goes On, a senior
marching band, is coming
from Portland.
One bullet the chamber
managed to dodge this year
was a fl ood of calls asking for
what to decorate fl oats with.
Bethell credited a strong,
simple theme – Toys and
Tinsel – with warding off the
phone calls this time around.
Lyndon Zaitz, publisher
of the Keizertimes, will serve
as the parade grand marshal.
Zaitz is a longtime volunteer
with numerous community
organizations
ranging
from the Keizer Heritage
Foundation to the Rotary
Club of Keizer.
Those looking for food or
warm drinks along the route
shouldn’t have much trouble
fi nding some. St. Edward

Bank, (cocoa) O’Reilly Auto
(food truck), Columbia Bank
(food truck), Remodeling by
Classic Homes (food truck),
Keizer Village Shopping

Farmers Insurance (cocoa)
and Copy Cats (cocoa) are all
expected to host some form

Artists: Design the city’s
2020 holiday card
The Keizer Public Arts
Commission is holding
a contest for the 2020
city holiday card and the
deadline is the end of
January 2020.
Each year, the arts
commission requests artistic
submissions to be featured
on the Keizer holiday card,
but the group did not
receive any submissions this
year. Hoping to capitalize
on the winter vibes, the
commission is opening the
contest for next year, now.
Artists of all ages are
eligible to enter, one piece of
artwork will be selected for
the card and the artist will
be awarded a $100 gift card
for Michaels Arts and Crafts.
The card is 4-by-6 inches
and submitted artwork
should be proportional to
those dimensions.
Entries can be submitted
to Debbie Lockhart at the
Keizer Civic Center located
at 930 Chemawa Road N.E.
Entries are due by 4 p.m.,
Friday, Jan. 31.
Entry forms can be
found at the www.keizer.
org and must be submitted
along with the artwork.
