Veterans saluted at McNary
McNary High School students took time away from classes
to honor a battalion of local veterans Friday, Nov. 8. An assem-
bly, and then visits by veterans to classes are part of the school’s
annual Living History Day.

Crystal Apple nominations are in
The Crystal Apple Awards were held Thurs-
day, Nov. 14 at the Historic Elsinore Theater in
Salem, and several educators in the Keizer-area
received nominations.
Guadalupe Lopez-Garcia, bilingual instruc-
tional assistant at Clear Lake Elementary; Jason
Erickson, music teacher at Clear Lake Elemen-
tary; Jesse Leonard, principal of Kennedy Ele-
mentary School; Holly Smucker, instructional
coach at Kennedy; Tracy Rhoades: teacher at
McNary High School. Linda Olsen, teacher at
McNary; and Daniel Borresen, assistant princi-
pal at McNary.
Crystal Apple Awards are given to teachers,
administrators or classifi ed staff people who
goes above and beyond to create a positive
learning environment and help kids achieve
their dreams.
