Whalen hits record CREEK,

continued from Page A14
their own 20-yard line, Allen
found Contreras with a shallow
out rout and the speedy eighth
grader raced past the entire Les-
lie defense for a 80-yard score.
Allen continued to have suc-
cess through the air for the ma-
jority of the contest, connecting
with Davien Cabrera for a pair
of 30-yard gains later in the
game.
“We were trying to set up
the pass for the whole game,”
Carr said. “We knew that Leslie
would have their smaller guys
on the outside, so we believed
that we could beat them deep.
(Allen) made some really good
passes today and we had some
kids with some really good
catches as well.”
After another defensive stop
to open the second half, the
Panthers offense put the game
away midway through the third
quarter when Allen hit Con-
treras over the middle for a 27-
yard touchdown.
Despite giving up a score
with less than four seconds re-
maining in the game, the Clag-
gett Creek defense was domi-
nant for all 32 minutes, stifl ing
the physical Leslie rushing at-
tack.
“We did a really good job
with our team tackling and ral-
lying to the football. With (Les-
lie’s) big guys, you have to have
more than one guy making it to
the ball,” Carr said.
ALEJANDRO VILLARREAL
Senior at McNary High School
Goalkeeper, Boys Soccer
Villarreal led McNary to a 1-0 victory over
fourth-ranked Summit with numerous saves
down the stretch. It’s the fi fth game this season
Villarreal hasn’t allowed a goal.
WHAT HIS COACH SAYS
“To me, he’s the best goalkeeper in the
conference and probably a top fi ve keeper in
the state. He’s very experienced, he’s calm and
has great skills.”
— Miguel Camarena,
McNary boys soccer head coach
McNary Golf Club
bids farwell to GM
The McNary Golf Club community bids
says goodbye to Brian Weaver, who has been
the full time General Manager of McNary
Golf Club since 2014.
Weaver will begin working with Troon
Management as Director of Golf at RedTail
Golf Center in Beaverton.
Weaver has overseen all the day-to-day
business at McNary Golf Club for the last
fi ve years. As McNary Golf Club is a mem-
ber owned club, he followed the direction
given him by the elected board; but he was
responsible for the myriad of details in carry-
ing out that mission.
Weaver was the point man for all of the
outside public business and group outings
that augmented the club’s income, keeping
members’ dues low.
This was not Weaver’s fi rst job at McNary.
He worked at McNary in the 1980’s, fi rst in
the bag room followed by a promotion into
the pro shop. His corporate golf experience
is extensive, including head pro at the OGA
Club in Woodburn for four years, another
four years as golf operations manager at Starr
Pass Golf Club and Spa in Tucson, Ariz.
Weaver also had a stint managing Westin
La Paloma Golf Club in Tucson.
Although born in Tacoma, Wash., Weaver
has been in the central Willamette Valley area
most of his life. Weaver has raised two sons.
Keaton, 24, lives in Salem. He installs artifi -
cial turf on sports fi elds when he isn’t coach-
ing baseball at Crescent Valley High School.
Tucker, 22, is in his senior year at Austin Peay
State University in Clarkson, Tenn., where
he is studying psychology. Tucker is also a
left-handed pitcher on the baseball team.
Both young men were standout baseball
players at Dallas High School.
Weaver skillfully navigated McNary Golf
Club through the choppy waters of the golf
industry for more than fi ve years, much of
his work behind the scenes.
