Peaceful standoff ends 9/11 remembered
with arrest for trespassing
A north Keizer street was
shut down for about an hour
Tuesday, Sept. 10, while law
enforcement offi cers negoti-
ated with a man who refused
to get out of his vehicle after
being pulled over.
About 10:30 a.m. Marion
County Sheriff ’s Offi ce dep-
uties conducted a traffi c stop
on a 1996 Toyota pick-up on
Wheatland Road North near
Parkmeadow Lane North.
The driver of the car had
allegedly been reported as
trespassing on a property in
the 1400 block of French
Prairie Road Northeast a few
hours prior to the encounter.
The suspect had previously
been arrested for trespassing
at the same address and was
violating his release agree-
ment by returning to same
place.
As deputies attempted
to get the driver to exit his
vehicle, the man refused and
became uncooperative.
As a precaution, law en-
forcement offi cers closed
Wheatland Road North until
the man agreed to step out
of the truck and surrender
peacefully.
The driver was identifi ed
as Joel Haskins, 29, of Sa-
lem. He was taken into cus-
tody for violating his release
agreement.
