Keizer students lead Blanchet class of 2019
Three Keizer residents who
attend Blanchet High School
in Salem received valedictorian
recognition for the 2019 gradu-
ating class.
Nikhil Namburi
Namburi graduates as a Na-
tional Merit Scholar Winner,
U.S. Presidential Scholar semifi -
nalist and a member of the Na-
tional Honor Society.
He is an active member of
Blanchet’s Distributive Educa-
tion Clubs of America (DECA)
program and served as the Or-
egon DECA state president
during his junior and senior
years. Namburi is a six time
DECA state champion and four
year qualifi er for DECA’s Inter-
national Conference.
Namburi has been an ac-
tive participant at the State
Science Olympiad, where he
secured several state champion-
ships and medals. In addition to
DECA and Science Olympiad,
Namburi actively participates

in student council, Friends of
Benedictine, Speech and De-
bate, and Leadership Youth of
Salem. He is also proud of his
work for Students for Change, a
student-based community ser-
vice club that he co-founded
and served as the president of

the club.
He participated in Blan-
chet’s basketball program and
golf team for four years. He was
named second-team all-district
in golf in 2018 and helped the
Blanchet boys golf team to two
district titles (2017, 2018) and
two 3rd place state fi nishes. He
was also a member of all three
of Blanchet’s fi rst place aca-
demic all-state golf teams (2016,
2017, 2018).
Namburi will attend Notre
Dame University as a Stamps
Scholar to double major in
business analytics and computer
Science while pursuing research
in non-profi t operations and re-
source optimization.
Hailey Ostby
Ostby graduates as a member
of the National Honor Society.
She played three sports in all
four years of her career at Blan-
chet, and earned letters in each
season of volleyball, basketball
and softball. For her efforts on
the volleyball court, Ostby was
named second-team all-state
volleyball this past season and
earned an all-state basketball
honorable mention as well. She
helped the Lady Cavs to three
state volleyball and basketball
playoff appearances and was
a member of the 2017 State
Championship basketball team.
In conference, she was named
second-team all-PacWest for
basketball (2019) and volley-
ball (2016,2017), fi rst-team all-
PacWest for volleyball (2018),
second-team all-PacWest for
softball (2018), and Honorable
Mention All-PacWest for vol-
leyball (2015).
Ostby is also involved in
Friends of Benedictine Club,
Outdoor Club, Students for
Change, Campus Ambassadors,
Spirituality Team, National So-
ciety of High School Scholars,
National Thespian Society and
has played a number of roles in
Blanchet’s drama productions.
She was also the manager for
the varsity football team for two
seasons.
Ostby will attend the U.S.
Military Academy West Point
where she will study Biology.
Kalea Salang
Salang graduates as a mem-
ber of the National Honor So-
ciety.
She also played three sports
all throughout high school and
is a four-year varsity letter win-
ner in volleyball, basketball and
track and fi eld. She is a mem-
ber of the 2017 state cham-
pionship basketball team and
2018 state championship track
and fi eld team. Kalea earned a
number of state and conference
accolades during her time on
Blanchet teams. She was named
fi rst-team all-state in volley-
ball (2018), third-team all-state
in track (2018) and volleyball
(2017), and honorable men-
tion in track (discus 2017 &
2018, shot put 2017). Oregon
Live named her one of the top
hitters in the state in volleyball
and she was recognized by the
Statesman Journal on their All-
Mid Valley Volleyball Teams for
the past two years. Kalea was
also named the “Moda Player
of the Game” during the state
basketball championship game
in 2019. She was named the
PacWest Conference Player of
the Year for volleyball this year
and was the PacWest Field ath-
lete of the year last year. She
also boasts three individual con-
ference titles in track and fi eld
(shot put & discus 2018, discus
2019).
Salang served as the Blan-
chet Student Body President
her senior year and is also ac-
tive in Blanchet’s Spirituality
Team, Outdoor Club, Friends
of Benedictine Club, Orchestra,
Students for Change Club, and
Salem Leadership Youth.
Salang will attend the U.S.
Coast Guard Academy where
she will compete on the track
and fi eld team and study Marine
and Environmental Science.
Register now for St. Edward VBS
St. Edward Catholic Church
will hold a vacation bible
school (VBS) for children ages
four through those completing
fi fth grade.
The VBS will begin at 8:45
a.m. and end at noon each day
beginning Monday, July 15 and
ending Friday, July 19.
Pre-registration will run
through Sunday, June 30 and
will be $15 per child or $40
per family. Late Registration,
beginning Monday, July 1, will
be $25 per child, and $60 per
family and a CD will be $5.

picked up at the parish offi ce.
