Assistance League hosts best-
selling author at Spring Forum
Master Gardener plant
sale slated May 3-4

of their programs, Operation
Backpack, currently delivers
basic school supply items to
8,500 school children in Sa-
lem-Keizer schools.
Tickets are $25 for gen-
eral admission and $10 for
student tickets. Purchases can

The 2019 Marion County Master Gardener Association will
host the Annual Plant and Yard Sale at the Oregon State Fair-
grounds in Columbia Hall on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May
4. The sale will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and
from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Admission and parking are free, and visitors can purchase an-
nuals, perennials, vegetables, herbs and more. Workshops, dem-
onstrations, and advice from Master Gardeners will also be avail-
able.
Cash, checks and credit/debit cards will be accepted.
The Annual Plant and Yard Sale is the primary fundraiser for
the Marion County Master Gardener Association, which is a
nonprofi t organization supported by volunteers to educate the
public about sustainable home gardening practices.
The Assistance League of
Salem-Keizer, will host its
Spring Forum on Thursday,
May 2. The event will begin
at 7 p.m at the Auditorium
Building 6 at Chemeketa
Community College.
Attendees will hear feature
speaker Sy Montgomery, a
New York best-selling author
of twenty books for adults
and children. Her books in-
clude The Good Good Pig and
The Soul of an Octopus. Her
most recent book, How to
Be a Good Creature, explores
otherness and sameness of
people and animals.
Proceeds from the event
will go toward supporting the
Auxiliary, an all-volunteer

Those River Road delays? Get used to them
Chicken dinner
at Sacred Heart
Sacred Heart-St. Louis Par-
ish will hold their 61st semi-
annual BBQ chicken dinner
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on
Sunday, May 5 in the Sacred
Heart Parish Hall 485 Seventh
Street in Gervais.
Dinners are $12 for adults
and $7 for children 12 and
under. Each meal will include
BBQ chicken, a baked potato,
green beans, coleslaw, a dinner
role, homemade pie or cake
and a beverage. To-go plates
will be available. All dinner
proceeds will benefi t Parish
and school activities.

ticipants can visit the Spring

The city is reconstruct-
ing crosswalks to ADA
standards between Chema-
wa Road North and the
south end of the city. Work
is expected to continue
until early July.
After the sidewalks
are complete, a repaving
project of the same section
of the River Road North
will begin that will likely
last until fall.
Heritage
festival
planned
at Capitol
Asian and Pacifi c Islander
Day at the Capitol will
begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday,
April 27 at the Oregon State
Capitol.
All are welcome to this
free event to celebrate the
rich and diverse cultures of
the Asian Pacifi c Islander
geographic
region
and
their infl uence on Oregon.
Participants will be able to
experience many cultures
through music, dances and
activities.
This
will
be
an
opportunity to engage with
different cultures as well as
tour the inside of the Capitol
