Eclipse pays for shade
Members of the Keizer Parks
Foundation announced the or-
ganization will donate $25,500
toward installing shade sails over
The Big Toy in Keizer Rapids
Park.
The Foundation organized
a festival around the total solar
eclipse in 2017 and is donat-
ing what’s left of the proceeds
toward cooling down the play-
ground on the warmest days.
“I want to thank the foun-
dation and I appreciate it,” said
Councilor Marlene Parsons,
who said taking her grandchil-
dren to the park last summer
was sweltering at times.
While the total cost of the
project is not yet known, Keiz-
er Public Works Director Bill
Lawyer said don’t get too excit-
ed just yet.
“The shade sails will not be
up this summer. The park will
have to close for a period of
time to put support columns up.
We’ll close it after Labor Day
so we don’t take away the toy
during the summer months,”
Lawyer said.
