to score on an RBI-ground-
out by Devon Bedoya.
McNary tied the game
in the bottom of the fi fth
on another RBI-groundout,
this time, coming from Jack-
son, who hit into a fi elder’s
choice.
But in the top of the sixth,
after surrendering a leadoff
walk, Allen tried to pickoff
the runner at fi rst and threw
the ball into right fi eld, al-
lowing Grant’s Will Bach-
man to advance to third.
Bachman
eventually
scored on a single to right
fi eld, giving Grant the 3-2
edge.
The Celtics, though, had
a golden opportunity to ei-
ther tie or win the game in
the bottom of the seventh.
Tavera and Jamison Mar-
tin each reached on a free
pass and Jackson got on base
via error, which loaded up
the bases with one out for
Covalt, who bats cleanup for
the Celtics.
Covalt hit a fl y ball to
right fi eld and Martin tried
to tag up from third on the
catch, but ended up being
caught between bases and
was doubled up at third, ef-
fectively ending the game.

After gaining the early
lead, the McNary softball
team couldn’t combat a four-
run inning from Westview in
the bottom of the fi fth as the
Celtics lost their fi nal non-
league game of the season by
a score of 7-2.
Kate Ronning led the
McNary offense by going
3-for-3 with a double and
an RBI.
Both teams were scoreless
after the fi rst two frames, but
the Celtics struck fi rst in this
one with a run in the top of
the third.
The Celtics loaded up
the bases with nobody out
to start the inning. Taylor
Ebbs then reached on an er-
crossword
ror — which was Westview’s
second error of the inning
— allowing Kamryn Miller
to score from third.
Despite grabbing the 1-0
advantage, and still have the
bags packed with nobody
out, the Celtics couldn’t
push any more across.
Westview came back with
a run of their own in the
bottom of the fourth time
the game at 1-1.
However, McNary was
able to respond when they
came to the plate in the top
of the fi fth.
Ronning and Ebbs hit
back-to-back singles to be-
gin the frame. Abbi Covalt
followed with a sacrifi ce
bunt to move the runners
over to second and third.
Hannah
Ebner
then
knocked in Ronning with
an RBI-groundout to put
McNary on top 2-1.
But after being in com-
mand in the fi rst four in-
nings, McNary pitcher Faith
Danner couldn’t hold off
Westview in the bottom
of the fi fth as the Wildcats
struck for four runs to take a
commanding 5-2 lead.
