But McNary’s #4 team of Ahlyn Lyda and McKenzie Proctor was able to salvage McNary’s second win of the match, rallying to win the fi - nal two sets (6-4, 6-3) after dropping the fi rst set. It was the fi rst ever tennis match for both players. “Having played just a cou- ple of weeks and just being able to keep score and know where to position themselves was impressive, but getting a win was incredible,” Smith said. “Their communication and attitude played a big role in their win, as did their abil- ity to get to the ball and just get it back in order to put pressure on the other team.” Earlier this month, McNary senior Abilgail Hawley was named to the Statesman Journal All-Mid-Valley girls basketball team. Hawley averaged 13.3 points per game this season, as well as 2.7 rebounds per game, and was named fi rst-team all-Mountain Valley Conference. Hawley has received all-conference honors in each of the last three seasons. KEIZERTIMES/Matt Rawlings McNary’s Lexy McKay continues a long rally with her opponent. They’re going to hit the ball.” “Our young kids aren’t in- timidated.” Sunset got a run back in the top of the sixth when Mikaela Byrnes hit a solo homer to cen- ter fi eld to begin the frame. With it being a one-run ballgame, Danner was forced to buckle down to get the fi nal six outs. Both the tying and go-ahead runs reached base in the sixth and seventh innings, but Danner found a way to get herself out of trouble in both instances to seal the win for the Celtics. “Faith is a pitcher that doesn’t show emotion, which is a great thing,” Wise said. “No matter what, she comes back and does what she needs to do on the next pitch.” File Abigail Hawley (21) led the Celtics in scoring this season.
