Where to head to stave off Spring Break boredom
Spring Break is just around
the corner, March 25-29, and
local organizations a offering a
variety of option to keep idle
hands occupied.
Keizer Boys & Girls Club
• The branch on Noren Ave-
nue in Keizer will be open every
day of Spring Break from 11:30
a.m. to 5 p.m. A full year mem-
bership is only $5 and usable at
all club branches in Salem and
Woodburn as well. Geared for
fi rst through eighth graders.
Kroc Center
• Two camps are being of-
fered this year, a Lego Inven-
tor Camp and a Spring Safari
Camp. Details, costs, dates and
times are available at salem.kro-
ccenter.org.
Salem Family YMCA
• Day camps and a week-
long option are available at the
YMCA in Salem March 25-29.
Each day will feature a differ-
ent focus: Monday is career day,
Tuesday will focus on fi tness;
Wednesday is sports day; Thurs-
day is water and swimming;
and Friday is pajama day. Cost
is $40 for a day or $180 for the

kids in kindergarten through
fi fth grade.

• If you want to fi ght off

MHS revives
Hall of Fame
The McNary High School
Athletic Hall of Fame will he
holding a ceremony on Fri-
day, March 15 at the Keiz-
er Civic Center to
honor
former
great athletes that
made signifi cant
contributions to
the winning tradi-
tion of the athletics
program at McNary.
The spring in-
ductees will include:
Lisa Blush, Mike
Doherty, Shawn Kintner
and the 2009 state champion
baseball team.
There will be a social hour
at 5:30 p.m. Dinner will begin
at 6:30 p.m. and the presenta-
tion will begin at 7 p.m.
Prices are $60 for an in-
dividual, $100 for a couples
and $400 for a table of
eight.

for $1,000 and
comes with honoree
ticket sales, program
and event recogni-
tion as well as a re-
served table for eight.

orientation scheduled for just

Grand Theatre on Friday,
March 22.
The musical tackles tough
subjects like racism, unem-
ployment,
homosexuality,
homelessness and love through
catchy tunes, larger than life
characters and puppetry. The
production also has adult situa-
tions and may be inappropriate
for children under 17.
The play runs through
April 14. Performances are
Wednesday through Saturday at
7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30
p.m. Preview performances
occur Wednesday, March 20
and Thursday, March 21.

• The amusement park locat-
ed east of Interstate 5 in Turner
opens for the season on March
22 and will be open from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day of
Spring Break.

needed
Keizer Fire District (KFD)
is currently accepting appli-
cations for the position of
fi refi ghter/paramedic.
KFD
will be fi lling two current va-
cancies and possibly two ad-
ditional vacancies by July 1.
KFD will be accepting applica-
tions from now until April 12.
Interviews are tentatively sched-
uled for April 30 and May 1 and
anticipate a hiring date of July 1.

Bingo night at Whiteaker
The Whiteaker Band
Boosters parent volunteer
group is organizing a bingo
night at Whiteaker Middle
School on Tuesday, March
19. The event will begin at
5:30 p.m. in the Whiteaker
Middle School gym, and all
players are welcome.
Participants will be able
to purchase snacks and play
bingo to win prizes.
Money raised at the
event will fund fi eld trips,
instruments, music, supplies
and other band needs for
the fi fth, sixth, seventh and
eighth graders of Whiteaker
Middle School.
