MHS cooks make art you can eat
McNary High School cu-
linary arts students found
themselves at the intersection
of cooking and visual art in
December.
The young chefs turned
their attention to graham
cracker houses and churned
out an awe-inspiring dis-
play using traditional graham
crackers, cereal and all the sug-
ary, and sometimes salty, build-
ing blocks they could fi nd.

Keizer Elks give back
A $1,500 grant from the
Elks National Foundation, is
now being put to use in Keiz-
er.
Keizer Elk Bruce Plummer
submitted an application for
the 2019 Anniversary Grant
on behalf of Keizer Lodge,
to Elks National Foundation
(ENF). Keizer Lodge was
awarded the grant on Dec. 1.
The charities designated to
receive the funds were Foster
Parents Night Out (FPNO),
an organization to provide a
night of respite to foster par-
ents to relax and refresh while the children are in the care of
trained staff; and to Keizer Community Food Bank which pro-
vides assistance for families in need. Keizer Community Food
Bank is able to purchase $3 of food for each dollar donated.
On Dee. 5, representatives Laurie Wobbe, Karen Salinas, and
Tony Aguilar from FPNO were presented with a $500 check;
and Jim R. Johnson representing Keizer Community Food
Bank was presented with a $1,000 check.
Chamber gears up to name
city’s next First Citizen
The Keizer Chamber of
Commerce is prepping one
of its biggest parties of the
year on Saturday, Jan. 19.
Tickets are now on sale for
the upcoming First Citizen &
Awards Banquet sponsored by
the Keizer Chamber of Com-
merce. Ticket cost is $55 for
individuals or $400 for table
sponsorship. The night begins
at 6 p.m.

In addition to naming
the city’s new First Citizen,
awards are presented for Mer-
chant of the Year, Service to
Education and a President’s
Award goes to a person se-
lected by the outgoing pres-
ident of the Chamber board
of directors.
The Keizer Civic Center,
930 Chemawa Road N.E.,
will host the event.
The event’s sponsors in-
clude Bonaventure Senior
Living, K’s Catering and Ore-
gon State Credit Union.
