SALEM-KEIZER
STATISTICAL LEADERS
Through Week 7
Sprague tops Mountain View
Sprague (2-6) started a winning streak
last Friday, defeating Mountain View 34-
6.
The Cougars scored first on a 43-yard
touchdown run in the second quarter
but the Olympians answered with a 54-
yard pass to take a 7-6 lead before half-
time.
Sprague then outscored Mountain
View 27-0 in the second half.
Quarterback Elias Polanski completed
seven of 16 pass attempts for 163 yards
and three touchdowns—two to Wiley
Roberts and one to Kobe Withers.
Chris Sharp kept the Olympians of-
fense balanced, rushing for 82 yards and
two touchdowns.
Sprague’s defense held the Cougars to
223 total yards.
Sprague closes the regular season Fri-
day, Oct. 26 at home against West Salem.
Summit 25
South Salem 21
The Saxons allowed 22 points in the
fourth quarter, including a 6-yard touch-
down pass in the final 10 seconds to fall
to 0-3 in the Mountain Valley Confer-
ence.
South Salem led 14-3 entering the
fourth quarter after Elijah Enomoto-Ha-
ole connected with Tony Rodriquez
for a 9-yard touchdown and then Zach
Webster scored on a 2-yard run.
Enomoto-Haole also threw a 42-yard
touchdown pass to Brayden Neuharth
with 8:45 remaining in the game but
it wasn’t enough to hold off the Storm
comeback.
Enomoto-Haole completed 13 of 24
passes for 153 yard and two touchdowns.
Webster rushed for 66 yards on eight
carries.
South Salem’s defense had three in-
terceptions—two by Neuharth and one
from Morgan Bice.
The Saxons play at McNary on Fri-
day, Oct. 26.

Whiteaker wins, sets matchup with
ATHLETE
undefeated rival Claggett Creek
of the Week
KEIZERTIMES/Derek Wiley
Whiteaker eighth grader Angel
Munguia celebrates in the end
zone after scoring a touchdown
for the undefeated Wolverines
earlier this season.
Hunter Ruberto rushed for
105 yards and a touchdown,
Braiden Copeland rushed for
85 and three touchdowns,
and Johann Sanchez-Singh
added a 97 yard touchdown
run to help Whiteaker’s
varsity football team cruise to
a 48-0 home win over South
Salem on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Whiteaker ran its record to
6-0 on the season, setting up
a matchup between the only
remaining unbeaten teams in
the district when Whiteaker
squares up next with 5-0
Claggett.
The Wolverine defense got
lots of big contributions—
Copeland had nine tackles and
a sack, Ty Borde added eight
stops and forced a fumble
that Ruberto recovered, and
Josh Friesen, Logan Bowlby
and Kyler Donahue each had
an interception.
“I’ve never had a team
pick off more passes than we
have this year,” Whiteaker
head coach Tom Larimer said.
“We have some smart and fast
kids in our secondary; our
defensive coaches (DC Luke
Atwood, DB Coach Mark
Atwood, and DL Coach
Jason Walling) work really
hard to prepare the kids, and
the results have been great to
see.”
“Claggett is really good,”
added Larimer, “I think they
have won every game pretty
easily. They are athletic and
Coach (Aaron) Carr puts
a winner on the field every
year. We are excited for the
opportunity and will give
them our best shot.”
This year the Salem-Keizer
School District has added
an official championship
game for the middle school
league, and Whiteaker and
Claggett enter the rivalry
game as the only remaining
unbeaten teams in the league.
Regardless of the outcome,
it is likely the two will meet
again on Thursday, Nov.
1 for the inaugural SKSD
Middle
School
League
Championship.
More information on the
championship game will be
available at either school’s
office.

and caught two passes for 30 yards in McNary’s 35-
23 win at West Salem on Friday, Oct. 19.
On defense, Jackson had an interception with two
minutes remaining to seal the Mountain Valley
Conference victory.
