Whiteaker football keeps rolling
Whiteaker Middle School’s
varsity football team ran its
record to 5-0 with a convinc-
ing 52-6 win over Houck on
Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Houck took a 6-0 lead
on its fi rst drive, but Braiden
Copeland threw a 38-yard
touchdow pass to Hunter
Ruberto on Whiteaker’s fi rst
offensive play, and it was all
Whiteaker from then on.
Copeland added another
touchdown pass to Damon
Thornton, while Ruberto,
Johann Sanchez-Singh, Angel
Munguia, and Logan Bowlby
each had a rushing score.
“Houck is not a bad team,”
Whiteaker head coach Tom
Larimer said. “They are big-
ger than us, faster than us,
have a great QB, and a have a
lot more kids.
“Our kids just played awe-
some today. I started coaching
youth football over 20 years
ago, and I thought this was
one of the most complete
games any of my teams has
ever played.”
After the fi rst drive, the
Wolverines almost complete-
ly shut down the Houck of-
fense.
“People need to real-
ize how good our defensive
coaches are,” Larimer said.
“These kids are so fortu-
nate to have Coach (Luke)
Atwood, Coach (Jason) Wall-
ing, and Coach ‘Bops’ (Mark
Atwood). They teach tech-
nique and do it with a sin-
cerity and kindness. The kids
love and respect them, so the
kids know that when they
are being pushed, it’s because
these guys care about them.”
Whiteaker’s game plan and
discipline were on display the
entire game.
In addition to Copeland’s
two pick sixes, Angel Mun-
guia and Kaden Donahue
had interceptions, and Brody
Roth, Jacob Hurst, Dominic
Hughes, and Will Green all
had sacks.
“We never even blitzed,”
said Larimer. “But Coach
Walling had his guys on the
D-line ready and they dom-
inated.
“It seemed like Hurst and
Roth were disrupting al-
most every play, and Houck
could just never get started.
Houck’s QB is a really good
athlete, but our D line gave
him trouble all day, and those
picks were the result.”
Whiteaker plays Clag-
gett Creek at McNary High
School at 7 p.m. on October
24, where the undefeated (as
of press time ) home town ri-
vals will play for the chance
to advance to the inaugural
