He ended up in cuffs after a pursuit that ended in Keizer Station. The crash occurred near the intersection of River Road North and Lockhaven Drive Northeast when the suspect, driving a Ford Expedition, crashed into a a Nissan Sentra stopped for a red light. Both drivers exited their vehicles, but the driver of the Sentra wanted to call 9-1-1 when he discov- ered the driver of the Expedi- tion had no license or insur- ance. At that point, the driver of the Expedition returned to his vehicle and left the scene trav- eling east on Lockhaven Drive. Offi cer Tyler Wampler was patrolling near th area at the time and spotted the vehicle near Lockhaven and 14th Av- enue. After initiating a traffi c stop, the suspect pulled over near Countryside Church at the intersection of McLeod Lane and Lockhaven. As Wampler approached the ve- hicle to contact the driver, the car sped away. The driver led Wampler on a short pursuit into and around Keizer Station, but stopped his vehicle and put both hands out of the window when he spotted Sgt. Greg Bar- ber approaching from the on- coming direction. Evan Alexander Gnagey, no permanent address, was taken to Marion County Correc- tional Facility on suspicion of failure to perform the duties of a driver when property is dam- aged, reckless driving and fl ee- ing or attempting to elude an offi cer. He was also issued ci- tations for no having a license, careless driving and driving un- insured. FLEEING DRIVER CRASHES IN WEST KEIZER One of Keizer’s newest of- fi cers has his fi rst pursuit under his belt. About 2:20 a.m. on Thurs- day, Sept. 20, Offi cer Marcus Risteen, who was sworn in just last month and hired by the department as the result of a public safety fee enacted by the city council, spotted a silver Ford Escape on Windsor Island Road North with out plates and no taillights. Risteen attempted a traffi c stop, but the driver turned east on Alexis Lane, which dead- ends after passing a handful of homes. The driver crashed into a chainlink fence, fl ed on foot and hopped over a wooden fence at the end of the street. Additional offi cers helped es- tablish a perimeter, but the suspect – described as a white male in his 20s – avoided cap- ture. The vehicle was not re- ported stolen and offi cers are continuing to investigate the incident.
