CHANGER: ‘It’s going to be
a different game’ continued from Page B1
Back healthy, Haselip
showed what she’s capable of
in McNary’s fi rst game of the
2018 season.
Trailing 1-0 in the second
half at South Medford, Hase-
lip tied the game with a head-
er and then snuck behind the
Panthers defense to score the
game-winning goal.
“The injury played as
much of a mental toll and
a fi tness toll as anything last
year and even though we got
her back and she did pro-
duce, she just never caught
up,” Nash said. “This year to
see her get out there and get
confi dence early. It opens up
so much for this team. I’m re-
ally proud of her.”
Haselip believes McNary
can make a playoff run this
season, similar to Silverton’s
in 2016.
“I really feel like we can
go farther in the playoffs this
year,” she said. “I feel like
we’re just a different team
from last year. It’s our atmo-
sphere and our confi dence.
I feel like we kind of lacked
that last year and we have a lot
more captains and a lot more
leaders on the fi eld. I’m really
excited about it and how well
we play together now. It’s ex-
citing.”
As for Summit, who Mc-
Nary hosts on Saturday, Sept.

will try to rebound this week at West Linn.
MEDFORD,
continued from Page B1
McNary in week two as the
Celtics travel to West Linn on
Friday, Sept. 7.
“We’d like to fi x our tough-
pects were very good tonight.
We didn’t play well defen-
sively obviously but we didn’t
play well offensively and our
special teams weren’t very
good. That just comes down
to them playing a heck of a lot
harder than we did.”

Izzy Haselip charges upfi eld in a game with South Medford
High School.
29 at noon:
“I’ve talked to (my team-
mates) about how big they are
and how aggressive they are
and how dominant they are
when they have the ball and
how well they shoot from the
outside,” Haselip said. “It’s go-
ing to be a different game.
“I feel like we’re becom-
ing way more dominant and
confi dent in ourselves that we
can compete with them this
year. I think they’re so used
to being dominant in 5A that
they’re going to be surprised
when they play 6A teams.”
Haselip would know.

vs. Westview
The Celtics dominated
the game against the current
state champs from the start
to the end and created mul-
tiple opportunities to score
a goals by Luis Lopez, Eddy
Martinez, Jack Baez, Francis-
co Rios, Jose Zamudio and
Alex Salazar. Unfortunately
for the McNary squad, it
missed its chances while
Westview goalkeeper Jorge
Barajas put in a big effort
with eight saves. In the 25
minute, the Celtics scored
ness issues at the moment,”
Auvinen said. “They (North
Medford) just out-toughed
us. We’re working on running
our feet through contact, both
offensively and defensively.
We’ll work on every aspect
because none of the three as-
on a combination of passes
between Eddy Martinez and
Luis Lopez, that ended with
a cross ball from Eddy Mar-
tinez to Jovanie Bravo that
strike the ball with his left to
far left corner of the net. At
53 minutes, a crossed ball to
Westview’s Kevin Vidal tied
the game for Westview. The
Celtics keep pushing for-
ward creating opportunities
to score but they couldn’t
get the fi nal touch near the
net to score the second goal.
