Man piles up warrants in wake of chase
A Salem man, who had an
outstanding warrant for parole
violation before leading Keiz-
er cops on a vehicular chase, is
adding more to his collection.
About 10:40 p.m. on Tues-
day, Aug. 20, Offi cer Kevin
DeMarco spotted a 2001
Chevy Prism traveling south-
bound on Cherry Avenue
Northeast. DeMarco ran a
search on the license plate and
discovered insurance on the
vehicle had been terminated
and the vehicle registration
had expired. Soon after, the
driver made a lane change
without signaling.
The vehicle turned right
on the Salem-Keizer Parkway
and DeMarco initiated a traf-
fi c stop. The driver responded
by pulling over to the side of
the road, and presented De-
Marco with an Oregon Iden-
tifi cation Card, not a driver’s
license. A background check
on the ID card uncovered a
statewide felony warrant for
parole violation.
The driver acted nervous
during the traffi c stop, ac-
cording to police offi cials, and
drove away after being asked
to turn off the car’s engine.
DeMarco pursued the vehicle
into Salem where the driver
crashed in the 1500 block of
Chemeketa Street Northeast.
The driver fl ed the vehicle
and eluded capture despite
a Salem Police Department
K-9 being brought into help.
Another Keizer police offi -
cer recovered a plastic baggie
containing methamphetamine
they believe the driver threw
from the vehicle.
The driver was identifi ed
Robert Thomas Padgett, 52,
of Salem. The report has been
forward to the Marion Coun-
ty District Attorney’s Offi ce
with a request for additional
warrants on charges of elud-
ing a police offi cer, hit-and-
run, possession of controlled
substance and others.

Capitol Auto honored
as great workplace
Employees know best when judging the perfect place to
work. Results from a confi dential survey of employees earned all
three Salem Capitol Auto Group (CAG) dealerships—Toyota,
Subaru, and Chevrolet—recognition for being among the best
in North America.
For the seventh year in a row, at least one CAG dealership was
individually recognized by Automotive News 2018 as one 100
Best Dealerships to Work For.
“We are so honored to be chosen once again for this presti-
gious list,” said Scott Casebeer, president of Capitol Auto Group.
“Our employees are the heart of this company and without
their continued commitment to Capitol, the Salem community
and their co-workers, we would not be the company that we
are today.”
This is the seventh year that Automotive News has partnered
with Best Companies Group to identify dealerships in the U.S.
that have excelled in creating great places to work. The program
measures workplace satisfaction, talent retention, and excellent
care of employees.
The top dealerships on the list will be profi led in an Automo-
tive News special section Oct. 15, 2018.
