After dropping its fi rst
game 4-3 to Sherwood last
Thursday, McNary Junior
American, coached by Kyle
Hughes, won three straight
by a combined fi ve runs to
extend its tournament in Or-
egon City.
The Celtics fi rst defeated
Silverton 15-13 on Friday
with six runs in the top of the
fourth and fi ve in the sixth.
Pierce Walker was 2-for-
3 with two RBIs and scored
two runs. Andrew Hammond
was 3-for-3 and scored three
runs. Silas Taylor drove in
three runs. Ryder Symington,
Chris Cortez and Ben Lane
each added two hits.
McNary then topped
Westview 9-7 in their second
game on Friday.
Hammond was 2-for-2
with a double and two RBIs.
Josh Grossman also drove in
two runs. Walker and Hudson
Hughes each scored two runs.
The Celtics got revenge
on Sherwood Saturday with a
9-8 victory.
Tied 8-8 entering the
bottom of the sixth, Cortez
hit a walk-off single to score
Kaeden Schwab from third.
Cortez was 2-for-3 with
two RBIs in the game.
Schwab had a double and
scored two runs. Hughes was
2-for-2 and scored three runs.
Cash Martin was 2-for-2 with
two RBIs.
McNary was eliminated
from the tournament Satur-
day afternoon after a 13-2 loss
to North Marion.

home. With Burks at bat, a
throwing error by catcher Juan
Ventura in a pickoff attempt
sent Genoves to third, and an
error by Inoa let Franco score.
Jesus Tona pitched the top
of the ninth, getting his sixth
save.
“We’ve got the same mind-
set,” Bart said. He noted that
the team was starting to pick
up after a lull.
Bart, who was experienced
with wood bats in the Cape
Cod Summer League before
signing with the San Fran-
cisco Giants, said he remained
less comfortable on defense
than offense as a professional
but found himself improving
there by getting to know the
pitchers better.
