“Sometimes I play in church
services and I had one oppor-

at a food bank. It was a giant

and one of the members of the
church did the devotional. They
sang a hymn and I was able play

In addition to spreading the
word about his faith, Kohler
said he takes part in about two
service projects a week depend-

of his labor.
He’s also part of a duo that

He said Atlanta is greener

been the biggest change he’s
had to adapt to.
“It’s funny to walk outside
and sometimes my glasses fog
up because there’s so much
moisture in the air,” he said.

The

has
issued
an
Explanation of Signifi cant

approving
modifi cations to the fi nal
remedy for the Northstar
Development site.
I&E
Construction is developing
this former farmland into a
residential community. The
pesticide dieldrin was found
in shallow soil on the property
at concentrations above
DEQ’s residential risk level of
0.034 milligrams per kilogram
(mg/kg). The fi nal remedy in
the 2017 Record of Decision
specifi ed that soil with dieldrin
contamination above this risk
level be removed prior to
residential development. I&E
has requested the following
changes to the remedy:
• Change the soil cleanup
goal from the residential risk
level of 0.034 mg/kg to the
urban residential risk level
of 0.085 mg/kg on the west
end of the property where
apartments will be built.
• Use soil from parts of the
property planned for single-
family homes that contain
dieldrin
below the urban
residential risk level of 0.085
mg/kg as structural fi ll for the
apartment area.
The urban residential risk
level is a more appropriate
cleanup goal for multi-family
uses such as apartments.
These modifi cations will help
reduce the amount of soil
that needs to be transported
offsite for reuse or disposal
by about 2000 truckloads.
DEQ approves of these
modifi cations.
