Church members spruce up Keizer cemetery
More than 50 members of the Clear Lake Ward of the Church
of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints spent part of their Memorial
Day weekend pitching in at Claggett Creek Cemetery.
The effort is a component of a long-term partnership with
the Claggett Creek Cemetery’s sexton, Danny Lindquist. For
the past 15 years, members of the ward have assisted with an-
nual clean-ups.
In addition to raking leaves and pulling weeds, members of
the church go as far as scrubbing headstones.
“Mr. Lindquist really works hard to make it look good, there
are just some things he just doesn’t have time or budget to do,
we just want to help,” said Bishop Langdon Smith of the Clear
Lake Ward.
The Fairgrounds Ward of the church has been performing
similar service at Jason Lee Cemetery, in Salem, during the same
time period. Both Wards are based in Keizer.
In addition to the clean-ups, the cemetery has been the ben-
efi ciary of several Eagle Scout projects that were the result of
the partnership with the church.
