Social media leads cops to quick ID of car break-in suspect
Keizer Police Department
posted a request on Facebook
to help identify a suspect in
a March 7 car break-in on
Meadowglen Street Northeast,
and followers of the depart-
ment responded quickly.
The suspect attempted to
use a debit card stolen from a
car on Meadowglen at an area
merchant and was caught on
the store’s video surveillance.
Within hours, police had
the name of the suspect from
several individuals who know
him. His name and additional
information has now been
passed along to the investigat-
ing offi cer.
“Facebook is powerful me-
dium. We had leads within an
hour or two of posting the
information and they contin-
ued to come in as recently as
(Monday) evening,” said KPD
Deputy Chief Jeff Kuhns.
Keizertimes is not identify-
ing the individual since he has
not yet been charged with any
crime.
STOLEN CAR
RECOVERED,
SUSPECTS ELUDE
A north Keizer neighbor-
hood near Keizer Station was
the site of a police search for
car thieves on Tuesday, April
17.
About 7:20 p.m., Sgt. Jeff
Goodman and Offi cer Rod-
ney Bamford spotted a stolen
1988 Honda Civic heading
north on River Road North.
After making a U-turn, the of-
fi cers tried to catch up to the
suspect vehicle, but the driver
had turned east on Lockhaven
Drive Northeast and the offi -
cers were unable to overtake it.
Further east on Lockhav-
en, Offi cer Kevin DeMarco
spotted the Civic turning
into Keizer Station. DeMarco
followed onto Tepper Lane
Northeast. When the Civic
reached the dead end at the
railroad tracks, before the pe-
destrian underpass, two males
fl ed on foot westbound on
Tepper Lane.
The Keizer offi cers estab-
lished a perimeter and were
assisted by members of the
Salem Police Department, but
could not locate the suspects.
The vehicle was recovered
and processed for evidence.
