A man driving a stolen ve-
hicle through south Keizer
eventually ended up in hand-
cuffs after attempting to fl ee a
traffi c stop.
On Tuesday, Feb. 13, Offi -
cer Martin Powell was moni-
toring traffi c on Cherry Av-
enue Northeast about 11:45
p.m. when he spotted a 1988
Honda Civic with different
Oregon license plates on the
front and rear of the vehicle.
Powell began tailing the
Civic and the driver turned
east on Candlewood Drive
where Powell attempted to
make a traffi c stop for the
violation regarding license
plates. When Powell activated
his lights, the driver began
to speed away and turned on
Brooks Avenue Northeast.
The driver ran the stop sign
at Alder Drive Northeast and
then went eastbound on Al-
der which turns into Pleasant
View Drive Northeast as you
round the corner in front of
Ben Miller Park. The vehicle
continued south on Pleasant
View before turning right and
traveling westbound on Shady
Lane Northeast. After crossing
over the intersection of Brooks
Avenue again, and continuing
westbound, the driver turned
off the headlights, but contin-
ued trying to elude Powell as
he pursued the car.
The fl eeing vehicle con-
tinued west on Shady until it
reached Cherry Avenue where
the driver attempted to make a
right turn to travel north, but
the Civic nearly collided with
another vehicle that was trav-
eling southbound on Cherry
Avenue at that time.
The suspect vehicle spun
sideways as the driver attempt-
ed to negotiate the corner and
avoid the other vehicle. After
spinning out, the suspect vehi-
cle came to a stop sideways in
the northbound lane of travel
and the driver exited the ve-
hicle and fl ed on foot.
In March the Keizer Art As-
sociation (KAA) will hold its
annual exhibit, Color, dedicated
to red this year. Entries in the
show can be the artist’s choice
of subject and medium in 2D,
3D, photography or kid’s art.
Children ages 4 to 14 are en-
couraged to enter the juried
show.
The show will run through
the end of the month. An artists’
A. Sorry, plastic bags cannot go into the blue cart because they get
tangled in the sorting equipment and cause major delays.
TRY THESE HELPFUL IDEAS INSTEAD:
• Use them to tie-off odorous garbage before tossing into garbage cart
• Re-use them or, if possible, recycle them at the store that you got them from.
• Call the RECYCLE HOTLINE (503) 390-4000 for other possible recycling locations.
• Ask your store to bag your purchases in paper instead. Oregon law gives you the choice!
