Attorney General Offi ce found there were “am-
biguities,” Gelser and Post moved forward with a
bill to further defi ne what constituted a report-
able offense.
Gelser took up the issue after calls regarding
the change began fl ooding her offi ce.
When Keizertimes asked University of Or-
egon School of Law Professor Leslie Harris to
review the training materials given to teachers
and explanations provided by the district for the
changes, Harris said the new policies were “sad.”
“The advice (given to the district) is extreme
protect-yourself-from-liability kind of advice
that has extremely bad consequences for stu-
dents and teachers, and particularly for young
people in diffi cult situations who need help,”
said Harris.
The bill was slated for a hearing by the Sen-
ate Committee on Human Services Tuesday,
Feb. 6.

The new guidelines were only put in place
for SKSD and, later, the Klamath School Dis-

The new 86-tree arbore-
tum, which includes a tree for
every active member of the
Rotary Club of Keizer, in-
cludes trees recommended by
the city as best for this area.
The planting was sponsored
by Rotary and Keizer Parks,
coordinated by the Claggett
Creek Watershed Council, and
made possible with donations
by Keizer Rotary Foundation,
Rotary District 5100, HERC
and Randy Miller.

the terms of three sitting city
councilors – Bruce Anderson,
Roland Herrera and Amy Ryan
– expire in January 2019. Can-
didates can fi le to run for the
soon-to-be open seats anytime
before Aug. 28 for the Novem-
ber general election. The only
requirements are having lived
in Keizer for the 12 months
preceding the election and fi l-
ing a petition with the city by
gathering 120 qualifi ed elector
signatures. Candidates do not
need to declare a party affi lia-
tion to run.
