Driver who hit trailer located, ticketed
Keizer Police have ticketed a
man believed to have destroyed
a speed trailer the department
was operating on Clear Lake
Road N.E. Dec. 18.
KPD Community Outreach
Specialist Dorothy Diehl was
off-duty when she spotted a
gray vehicle with front-end
damage in the 7900 block of
O’Neil Road Northeast.
The car, a Honda, was miss-
ing a corner of its front bum-
per, which appeared to Diehl to
match damaged parts from the
scene where the speed trailer
was hit.
Investigators were able to
use the evidence that was left at
the scene to identify what they
believed was the color, estimat-
ed year, make and model of the
suspect vehicle. They were able
to narrow it down to a 2013-
2015 Honda Accord that was
“Modern Steel Metallic” gray
in color.
On Tuesday, Dec. 26, Lt. In-
man made contact with the
registered owner of the ve-
hicle that remained parked in
the driveway on O’Neil Road
NE. The owner was identifi ed
as Gregory James Stadler, 71.
Inman questioned Stadler
who admitted he had been
driving his vehicle during the
early morning hours, about 1
a.m., Dec. 18, when he struck
the speed trailer. Lt. Inman
cited and released Stadler at this
residence.
He was cited for failure to
perform the duties of a driver
when property is damaged,
careless driving and driving un-
insured.
The speed trailer was de-
termined to be a total loss by
KPD’s insurance provider. It
suffered frame, axle, solar panel
and wheel damage in the colli-
sion. The electronic display was
still being inspected to see if it
could be repaired.
The trailer was purchased by
the department in May 2016
for $8,500 and the service is
one of the most frequent re-
quests by residents of the city.
