Child, 7, has run-in with car near school
A child crossing outside of
a crosswalk was struck by a
slow-moving vehicle on Clear
Lake Road N., near Forest
Ridge Elementary School.
About 3:40 p.m., Keizer
Police Department received a
report of a vehicle vs. pedes-
trian collision in north Keizer.
A 7-year-old student had
attempted to cross Clear Lake
Road heading north when she
was struck by a vehicle mov-
ing through a congested area.
The child fell to the ground
and received a bloody, possibly
broken, nose.
“This was a slow-speed,
low-impact crash with no
damage to the involved ve-
hicle. The driver of the vehicle
remained on scene, assisted
with fi rst-aid until medics ar-
rived, and fully cooperated
with the investigation,” said
Sgt. Jeff Goodman of KPD.
The primary cause of the
crash was the pedestrian not
using a crosswalk. There is a
crosswalk located at the inter-
section of Clear Lake Road
and Wheatland Road a short
distance from where the child
attempted to cross the street.
School offi cials sent out an
auto-dialer call alerting par-
ents of the incident and of-
fered counseling to students
who requested it.

Keizer Fire District will host
the annual Santa Breakfast, a
tradition that is nearly as old
as the district itself, on Sunday,
Dec. 10.
From 7:30 to 11:30 a.m.,
nearly 400 people will come
through for all-you-can-eat
pancakes, sausage, eggs, milk
and coffee.
The cost of the breakfast,
which supports the Keizer Vol-
unteer Firefi ghters Association,
is $6 for adults, $3 for children
ages 3-12 and free for 2-and-
under.
Pictures with Santa are free
and many of the same families
return year after year.
After a trial run a year ago,
Keizer Fire District will have a
drive-thru Santa at the station
from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on can-
dy cane day—Saturday, Dec. 16.
Santa will still travel
throughout Keizer from 9
a.m. to dark passing out candy
canes. Going to every street,
minus cul-de-sacs and dead
ends, KFD plays Christmas
music and sounds their sirens
to invite children to come out.
