McNary High School
raised $1,575 for the sci-
ence department at its annual
powder puff football game, in
which the seniors came from
behind to defeat the juniors
34-20 on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Quarterback Paige Downer
scored four touchdowns, in-
cluding a 55-yard run to put
the seniors ahead 27-20 with
5:42 remaining. Kailey Doutt
also had a touchdown for the
seniors.
Jessy Shore was a perfect
4-for-4 on extra points. On
defense, Jessica Grimmer had
two interceptions.
Trailing 13-0, Katelyn Am-
erino scored the juniors’ fi rst
touchdown on an 80-yard run
with 1:05 remaining in the
fi rst half. With 14 seconds to
go, the juniors then recovered
a fumble and Olivia Purkey
added a touchdown run to tie
the game at 13-13 entering
halftime.
Anabelem Escobar gave
the juniors their only lead
early in the second half on
another long touchdown run
but Downer got into the end
zone three times in the fi nal
10 minutes to make sure the
seniors came out on top.
The powder puff game was
part of McNary’s homecom-
ing week, which began with
a court assembly on Monday
and concludes with a dance
on Saturday night. The theme
was Hollywood.
The varsity football team
plays McMinnville Friday at 7
p.m. See page B1.
