Citizen tackles fl eeing suspect
A Keizer man was bit by a
suspect fl eeing police on foot
when he helped bring an end
to the pursuit Sunday, July 16.
About 9 p.m., Offi cer
Kevin DeMarco attempted to
make a traffi c stop on a 2002
Buick Regal in the 4900
block of 5th Place Northeast.
The driver initially stopped
the vehicle, but drove away
as DeMarco exited his patrol
unit. The suspect drove north
through an apartment parking
lot and then turned east until
it reached a dead end with a
fence.
The man exited the Buick
and continued fl eeing on
foot. Offi cers Rodney Bam-
ford and Scott Bigler arrived
to help with the pursuit, but
a private citizen tackled the
suspect to the ground and
held him there until Bamford
could detain him in the 600
block of James Street North-
east.
The citizen was bitten in
the struggle.
The suspect was later iden-
tifi ed as 42-year-old Clarence
Ray Williams. He was taken
to Marion County Correc-
tional Facility where he was
charged with assault, assault-
ing a police offi cer, as well as
fl eeing or attempting to elude
in a vehicle and on foot.
