thirds of an inning with six

rehabilitation, fanned three
in his one inning and got his
fi rst save.
Friday, June 30:
Volcanoes 7, Tri-City 2
Salem-Keizer scored three
times in the fi rst inning, and
the Dust Devils never caught
up.
In the Volcano fi rst, one-
out singles by Kevin Rivera
and Manual Geraldo were
followed by a double from
Ryan Kirby that brought
both home. Kirby went to
third base on a wild pitch by
Henry Henry and scored on
an error.
Tri-City’s two runs came
in the second and third. The
Volcanoes added two runs in
the fi fth as Geraldo drove in
Malique Ziegler with a triple
and scored on an error.
In the Volcano eighth,
Dylan Manwaring doubled
and scored on AJ Ramirez’s
fi rst home run of the season.
Geraldo and Ziegler stole
one base each, remaining tied
for the club lead. It was No.
10 for both.
Alejandro De La Rosa was
the winning pitcher with a
1-0 record, and Nick Deeg
had his fi rst save. Henry took
the loss at 0-2.
Saturday, July 1:
Volcanoes 2, Tri-City 1
Garrett Cave, one of seven
newcomers to the Volcanoes,
lost no time in getting his fi rst
professional save.
Salem-Keizer came from
behind in this game, the Dust
Devils having scored their
run in the second inning. The
fi rst Volcano score was a lead-
off home run by Gustavo Ca-
brera in the fi fth.
In the Volcano eighth, Jef-
fry Parra hit a one-out double
and Mikey Edie ran for him.
With Malique Ziegler bat-
ting, a wild pitch by Jordan
Guerrero sent Edie to third.
Ziegler was then hit on the
hand by a pitch and left the
game.
Edie scored on a sacrifi ce
fl y by AJ Ramirez.
Logan Webb was the win-
ning pitcher in relief at 1-0.
Guerrero was the loser at 0-1.
Sunday, July 2:
Tri-City 4, Volcanoes 2
This fi rst Dust Devil win
of the fi ve-game series was

inning.
Six Volcanoes played their
fi rst professional game: Out-
fi elders Logan Baldwin, Dal-
ton Combs, and Bryce John-
son; third baseman Michael
Sexton; and relief pitchers

and second baseman Orlando
Garcia played their second
professional game.

reliever Fred Schlichtholz was
the winner at 1-0.
Monday, July 3:
Volcanoes 3, Tri-City 2
(10 innings)

one batter but retiring the
other three. Jose Marte, the
starter, allowed no runs and
struck out three in his fi ve in-

The Volcanoes got their
fi rst two runs in the third in-

taken over from starter Travis
Radke.
A throwing error by Cos-
grove on a pickoff attempt

Calabrese walked, and John
Riley doubled both runners
home.

only two hits in the game,
scored once in the sixth and
once in the seventh.
In the 10th, Michael Sex-

We have an unobstructed
view of Mt. Hood in all its
splendor.
We are in an arid zone, usu-
ally turned brown by this time
of year. We have grass still lush
and green.
We have 37 nice fi sh in the
cooler and a long boat ride
back into the afternoon wind
ahead of us.
Devon has volunteered to
assist Koskela in fi lleting the
catch.
It has been a great day with
good friends. We are taking
home, what many say is the
fi nest fi sh on the planet.
Four of us can fi nally check
walleye off the old bucket
list, and plan on coming back
again.
More About Walleye
Walleye fi shing is open year
round. There is no bag limit,
no size limit. Although, some
recommend you release the
large females.
(Probably not going to
happen when a person lands
a trophy of 10-16 pounds.)
They are the broodstock that
produce the next generation.
The Columbia leads the
nation in producing trophy
walleye. The state record is
over 19 pounds.
Native American Tribal
netters have brought in fi sh
that would have been world
records.
Tournaments pay out big
bucks and attract teams from
all over the nation.
Walleye can be found
throughout the Columbia.
Some have been caught on
the Willamette River below
the falls at Oregon City.
Best way to learn the fi sh-
ery is hire a reputable, certifi ed
guide, and have some fun.
