Couple caught with $2,400 in stolen merch
A couple from Kalama,
Wash., was taken into custody
after allegedly walking out of
Lowe’s in Keizer Station with
more than $1,130 in mer-
chandise without paying for it.
Keizer police offi cers re-
sponded to a call of shoplift-
ing-in-progress at the Keizer
Station Lowe’s, 6225 Ulali
Drive N.E., about 2 p.m. on
Sunday, June 18.
A loss prevention offi cer
reported a male and a female
were inside, but had left their
vehicle parked in the parking
lot. The vehicle had been spot-
ted at another Lowe’s about 10
minutes prior in Salem and it
was suspected to already con-
tain merchandise stolen from
that store. The two suspects
had also been reported during
previous thefts.
Offi cers arrived and waited
in the area keeping an eye on
the suspect vehicle that had
been parked close to the Gar-
den Center of the store. Even-
tually, the suspects emerged
with a cart full of merchandise
they had not paid for.
As they approached their
parked vehicle, the offi cers
confronted them and took
both into custody without in-
cident.
The cart they had pushed
out of the store on this day
contained $1135.28 of stolen
merchandise. Stolen property
recovered from inside their
vehicle from the earlier theft
from the Salem Lowe’s totaled
$1331.14.
Mark Allen Griffi n, 48,
and Sandra Jenny Griffi n, 47,
were both transported to the
Marion County Correctional
Facility and charged with theft
in the fi rst degree.
The male suspect told one
of the investigating offi cers
both he and his wife used
controlled substances and they
had committed the thefts to
sell the stolen property for
drugs.
M AN CHARGED
WITH KIDNAPPING ,
ASSAULTING OFFICERS
A man allegedly seen as-
saulting a woman in public
Saturday, June 17, is now in
jail facing a charge of kidnap-
ping.
Keizer police offi cers
on the report of a man and
woman walking and argu-
ing near the intersection of
James Street Northeast and
6th Place Northeast. Callers
reported the male was chok-
ing a female and had physi-
cally thrown her up against a
parked vehicle and was pulling
her hair. Offi cers responded
with lights and sirens, which
is not standard procedure, and
arrived soon after the report.
As the investigating offi cer
and his sergeant took the male
suspect into custody and at-
tempted to detain him in the
backseat of the patrol vehicle,
he kicked at both of them and
caused minor injury to both
offi cers.
After completing an in-
vestigation, Carlos Ochoa,
20, was arrested for coercion,
strangulation, assaulting of a
public safety offi cer, resisting
arrest and disorderly con-
duct. He was taken to Marion
County Correctional Facility.
On Monday, July 19, the
Marion County District
Attorney’s Offi ce charged
Ochoa with second degree
kidnapping, for taking the
victim from one place to an-
other against her will, and two
counts of assaulting a public
safety offi cer.
