The Keizer Planning Commission held its latest meeting
Wednesday, June 14, here’s what was discussed:
• Most of the meeting
was devoted to updating
the city’s off-street parking
and loading code. Commis-
sioners resolved a confl ict in
the code regarding theaters,
which previously fell under
two different requirements
for parking. The existing
code states theaters can have
either one parking space for
every four seats or one space
for every three seats. The
change requires one space
for every three seats.
Other changes approved
included standardized spaces
for parallel parking, standard-
ized aisle widths for parking
lots, ranging from 14 feet to
22 feet depending on the an-
gle of parking, and require-
ments for one tree for every
eight parking spaces in large
parking lots.
The issue of aisle widths
caused the most conster-
nation on the part of the
commissioners. Several cited
diffi culties encountered in
the Keizer Village Shopping
Center (where Goodwill is
located) as a problem they
wanted to avoid in the future.
“It was built at a time
when standards were dif-
ferent, and it was built to
the bare minimum. There
are more restaurants there
now and more intense usage
for quick trips,” said Shane
Witham, assistant city plan-
ner.
• Community Develop-
ment Director Nate Brown
reported on construction of
the new hotel in Keizer Sta-
tion, which has been stalled
for months. A new contrac-
tor is on board and plans to
resume work in July, Brown
said.
