CHAMPS, continued from Page 12 “We just pushed our- selves,” Acosta said. “We were determined to get in the top fi ve.” CCMS had the fastest time before three teams passed them in the fi nal heat. “They’ve done something our other 4x400s haven’t done, continuing to break records,” Richardson said. “That’s been a huge accom- plishment for both of these relay teams.” Figueroa was chasing the same feeling he got after winning the 4x100. “I wanted to have the same experience with them,” Figueroa said. “Winning fi rst in our heat was a great achievement, get- ting our time and I know they ran their hearts out and that’s all that mattered. That’s what I wanted them to do. I wanted them to give it their all because it was the last time we were going to run as a team.” Claggett Creek fi nished 10th overall in the fi nal team standings. Whiteaker’s girls placed 15th. Leah Doutt took fi fth in both the 100 in 13.01 and the 200 in 27.26. Doutt, Ky- lie Nepstad, Taylor Ebbs and Kennedy Buss also fi nished fi fth in the 4x400 relay in 4:21.46. Cole Garland and Rian Canini led the Whiteaker boys. Garland placed third in the long jump at 19 feet and Canini took sixth in the high jump, clearing 5-06.
