The featured Iris for the 2018 Iris Festival Poster contest is “about town.” The Chamber of Commerce will select the winner for the poster and pins for the 2018 Iris Festival. A $200 prize will be given to the winner. Poster contest entries may be any me- dium and must meet the re- quirements for the May, 2017 Celebration of Flowers Gallery show. The winning entry will be announced at the May 6 Artists’ Reception held in the Gallery from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Celebration of Flow- ers show is coming in May. It will be displayed in the KAA Gallery. Entries of any medium depicting fl owers may be en- tered. Children ages 4 to 14 are encouraged to enter the show as well. The intake is May 3 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the gallery. The artists’ reception will be Word Slam at MHS April 20 The McNary High School Write Club is hosting its sec- ond annual Word Slam Thurs- day, April 20 at 7 p.m. The event is an opportuni- ty for Keizer students to come out and share their work with other writers in an open mic format. Sign-up is at the door. Poetry, spoken word, rap, fi ction and nonfi ction pieces are all welcome. The event will be held in the McNary High School choir room, room 40. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments and treats will be available. held May 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The exhibit is juried and ribbons will be awarded for best of show, fi rst, second, and third place, as well as an hon- orable mention in each of the following categories: 2-D art, photography, 3-D art, and kids’ art. A $50 award will be given to the artist of the best of show. Members will pay an entry fee ranging from $10 to $25. Non-members will pay be- tween $15 to $30, and youth will be required to pay a $5 en- try fee. Commission fee for the sales is 60 percent to the artist and 40 percent to KAA. Keizer Homegrown The- atre will present Hearts Like Fists beginning Friday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cheme- keta Community College Building 6 Auditorium. The play, written by Adam Szymjowicz and directed by Jay Gipson-King, tells the story of Doctor X, who after having his heart broken, takes revenge by poisoning other lovers in their sleep. He is tracked by three female crimefi ghters— Nina, Sally and Jazmin. Additional shows are April 29, May 5, 6, 11, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m. and April 30 and May 7 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 and available online at www.brownpaper- tickets.com/event/2929658.
