State Reps. go to Whiteaker
Rep. Jodie Hack, R-
Salem, and Rep. Margaret
Doherty, D-Tigard, visited
Whiteaker Middle School
social studies teacher James
Decker’s seventh grade classes
on Wednesday, Jan. 26.
The state representatives
played three computer games
with the students: Argument
Wars, where the player works
on their persuasive abilities
by arguing a real Supreme
Court case,
Responsibility
Launcher, in which a player
reminds citizens of the im-
portance of civic duties and
Represent Me, where the stu-
dents worked as a legislator
trying to meet the needs of
their constituents.
Decker said all three games
are designed to teach the
students how to be the best
citizen they can be under the
rights promised in the U.S.
Constitution.
After playing games, Hack
and Doherty answered ques-
tions from Whiteaker stu-
dents about why they decid-
ed to run for offi ce to begin
with and how they get along
with people they disagree
with.
