By ERIC A. HOWALD

The election counts are
fi nally complete and McNary
High School teacher Laura
Reid will be Keizer's next city
councilor.
According to the fi nal
cumulative totals, Reid edged
out Allen Barker by 109 votes,
50.44 percent to 49.56 percent.
Nearly 12,400 votes were cast
for the two candidates in the
only contested city council
race.
“I'm thrilled that I'm able
to get to know Keizer from
this perspective. I've lived in
Keizer for 15 years and gotten
involved in other ways, but
this is entirely new,” said Reid.
“I really appreciate the votes
of confi dence.”
Early results had shown
Barker holding a thin lead over
Reid, which led to Keizertimes
erroneously calling the race
for him, but Reid took control
of the race as more votes were
counted in the days after the
election.

Lacie and Lee Bishop-
Wallace planned to marry
next year but, two weeks ago,
they decided they didn't want
to wait any longer.
It left them scrambling
to line up all the details,
including fi nding a place for
the ceremony, which took
place Monday, Nov. 28.
“We wanted something
other than the courthouse and
tried to think of a place we
love in town. Lacie suggested
Tony's,” said Lee.
Tony's is Tony's Kingdom
of Comics on River Road
North, owned by Keizerite
Tony Grove. The couple
spends a not-insignifi cant
amount of time in the shop.
“I love it here, and we're
both huge nerds. Much of our
relationship has been comic
conventions and various nerd
events,” Lacie said.
Lee
emailed
Tony
immediately.
“At

I
was
overwhelmed. I had a Black
Friday sale coming up, my
father had passed a few days
before and I'm working on an
event for our 10th anniversary,
but there was no way I could
say, 'No,' to these two,” Tony
said.

Trevor Phillip Highsmith

A Keizer man will serve fi ve
years in prison after pleading guilty
to 10 counts of encouraging sex
abuse stemming from an arrest in
May.
Trevor Phillip Highsmith, of
Keizer, was arrested after a Claggett
Creek Middle School student
noticed him following her and
taking photos or video with his cell
phone.
The student made note of the
man’s vehicle, license plate and
a large sticker on the top of the
windshield and reported those
details to school staff. Staff, in
turn, reported the incident to the
Keizer Police Department (KPD).
Sgt. Trevor Wenning and School
Resource Offi cer David Zavala
began looking into the case.
About 24 hours later, Zavala
patrolled the area and saw a male in
a vehicle matching the description
near the intersection of Alder Drive
N.E. and Pleasant View Drive N.E.

and, now, marriage. They
bonded over their interest in

Zavala followed the vehicle and saw
it be parked in front of a residence
on the 3700 block of Pleasant View
Drive. The driver exited the car and
went into the residence.
Once back-up arrived, Zavala
approached the house and made
contact with the driver, later
identifi ed as Highsmith. Highsmith
gave consent to search his phone
and it revealed dozens of images of
child abuse in addition to photos of
females that appeared to be walking
to and from school that had been
created in the weeks leading up to
his arrest.
On Monday, Nov. 28, Highsmith
entered his guilty plea to the charges
