Rivera, with Kowalczyk scor-
ing. Perez then hit a home run

fi rst, and Spokane had an 8-1
lead.
Alex Daniele took the
mound for the Indians in the
seventh, and Ryan Kirby led

Paris Boyd, had a strong
day in the pool for the North-
wood girls, winning three 13-
14 individual events, fl y, breast
and IM, as well as swimming
on two 15-18 winning relays
with Emily Alger, Bella Walker
and Alyssa Garvey.
Garvey also had the fastest
times in the 15-18 back and
breast, Alger won the 15-18
fl y and Walker touched the
wall fi rst in the 13-14 free.
Meili Skipper placed fi rst in
the 8-and-under fl y and swam
on the winning free relay with
Katie Alger, Katelynn Schaffer
Howard singled to center, and
a walk to Geraldo loaded the
bases. A pitch hit Reynolds,
forcing Kirby home.
John Timmins pitched the
eighth for the Volcanoes and
set the Spokane batters down
in order, becoming Salem-
Keizer’s most effective pitcher
of the game.
Gio Brusa raised Volcano
hopes in the eighth by leading
off with a triple to center, but
the new Spokane pitcher, Ka-
leb Fontenot, retired the next
three men.
Matt Pope took the mound
for the Volcanoes in the ninth
and got clobbered for six hits
and fi ve runs, four earned.

time in the breaststroke.
Kailey Wilcke took fi rst
in the 11-12 backstroke and
swam on the winning free and
medley relay teams with Eli-

relays as Aisleigh Pack, Indy
Gauthier, Molly Eisele and
Avery Buss took fi rst in the
free and Gauthier, Eisele, Buss
and Kaitlyn Roop had the
fastest time in the medley.
Holiday
Kameron Splonski had the
fastest times in the 9-10 free,
fl y and backstroke. He also
jumped up an age group to
swim on the winning 13-14
Lohr singled to center, and
Kowalczyk and McDonald
singled to right, jamming the
bases again. Blaine Prescott,
who had come in as a de-
fensive replacement in center
fi eld, drove in the three with
a triple to center. LeBlanc
brought Prescott home with a
single to left.
Howard walked to lead off
the Volcano ninth. Rivera hit
a home run, his fi rst, over the
right fi eld fence.
Fontenot retired the next
two batters, and Heath Quinn
tripled to right. Right fi elder
Spivey crashed into the fence
pursuing the ball but stayed in
the game. Quinn scored on a
passed ball with Brusa at bat,
but Brusa struck out to end
the game.
Hernandez was the losing
pitcher with an 0-3 record.
“We couldn’t get the big
hits,” Volcano manager Kyle
Haines said. “The pitching
and the defense let us down.”
Reynolds, who said he hit
his homer off a fast ball, com-
mented, “We need to have
good defense and get timely
hits.”
Asked what he thought the
pitchers should work on, Tim-
mins said, “Just confi dence, re-
ally, thinking that your pitches
are better than what the bat-
ters will do.”

18 IM
Northview
Jeremy Becker won the 11-
12 IM and backstroke to lead
the boys. Cole Garland had
the fastest time in the 13-14
breaststroke.
Kianna Staley touched the
wall fi rst in the 11-12 fl y and
breaststroke to pace the girls.
